Funnily enough I was in a shop today and overheard 2 middle aged women (I'm assuming they were mums), one turned to the other and said this about the 3DS. "Its the Nintendo DS but its in 3D... "
In short, yes they are still very confused.

More proof, look at those percentages!
Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

At what, the double standards they use?
I couldn't agree more.
As a 3DS owner I have dealt with this with non gaming friends/family. "Why did you buy a 3D DS when you have a DS? I thought you didn't care for 3D in films?"
When I explain it is a brand new system with improved features and tech that can play all my old games and new shiny ones often a "Really? That makes sense then."
Nintendo really needs to market it in such a way or people look at it similar to DS Lite or DSi.
Also, get on localizing some games for the West!

My buddy did the same with his son. He thought because the DS XL had a bigger screen it was therefore better... haha, yeah, dumbass

I doubt there's much confusion for anyone it matters to. If I was a kid that wanted a 3DS, i would know exactly what it was and I would make sure my folks (or Santa) knew exactly what it was. I saw a man at Gamestop asking staff about the various DS and 3DS models and he eventually went with the cheapest ones. But his kids were very young and didn't care. I think most of the Black Friday sales of DS were just for people who wanted the cheapest possible option. Expect the 3DS to be the big seller the rest of the way.

I think so too. I'm not from the US so I don't know much about black friday, but isn't it ususally about good deals, pack-ins, combos, price reductions and bonus stuff? As in, people hunting for cheap deals? Isn't that also why Vita sold so well (compared to usual), because it had some amazingly cheap deals with games and extras packed in? And Wii?
