Forums - Sony Discussion - Ratchet and Clank: Full Frontal Assault Reviews Creeping In

Crack in time was excellent, Full Frontal is just a low budget PSN spin-off.

Sony should keep better care of Ratchet one of the few friendly for all ages IPs they have.

Insomniac really should get back to what they do best. They think games like Fuse are going to bring in money compared to R&C and Resistance, but I have to lol at that.

Unfortunately the whole company is suffering as a result of Fuse at the moment, in my opinion.  The main team are pursuing it in a rather misguided attempt to make a 'mainstream appeal' title.  I have no doubt that it's going to turn out as a fairly decent game, but they're alienating the Insomniac fans with it's new (no doubt EA forced) direction; while failing to draw in any of the CoD crowd that they seem to be aiming for.

Meanwhile, the North Carolina studio is left with the Ratchet & Clank games and they're just a bit of a mess in all honesty.  I'll happily believe that they're good developers but between this + All 4 One they've demonstrated that they're nowhere near the level of the Burbank team.  They keep trying to innovate the R&C series when it needs no innovation at all - fans are crying out for another universe-trotting adventure like "A Crack in Time" and we get this instead.  As a Ratchet fan, I am going to play & hopefully enjoy this, but it's not the Ratchet game I want to be playing.

Honestly, I'm such a big Insomniac fan but Ted Price really need to sort out his teams at the moment.  They're not getting the best of anything.  If I were them (and I am biased, so take this with a grain of salt), I would set the Burbank team on making a PS4 'proper' Ratchet game because even if it only sells 2 million or so those are 'guaranteed' sales - the fans will turn out for it and I'm sure Sony will happily fund it.  And I'd put their North Carolina team on a new project or something.  They're betting on Fuse becoming their next Resistance: Fall of Man, but I feel circumstance brought about the success of that game and they're not looking like repeating it with what they've made so far.

I'll happily be proved wrong though, I hope the game sells well and brings them lots of money, when they're good they're my favourite developers in the business so I wish them all the best!

after playing resistence i think i realized they weren't quite the quality developer i thought they were.  still love the mainline R&C games but innovation doesn't seem to be their thing.

Exactly, don't fix what isn't broken. I would love another Ratchet and Clank game in the same vein as the future trilogy, and Fuse just looks like a massive joke. Overstrike could have been a great game, but this is going to fly under the radar just like MOH Warfighter.(did anyone buy that?) I'm really wishing that Insomniac stayed with Sony.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

To their credit they are working on stuff that interests and inspires them more. The theory being that when they are most inspired they will make the better game.

The problem of course is that they are not keeping the player in mind as much as they should while they pursue whatever might be of interest to them.

Reviews are not sales as many users have pointed out, so I've moved this from Sales to Sony Discussion.

Anyway, I would be entirely unsurprised if this ends up getting lackluster reviews, and hey, maybe that will teach them to stop making stupid gimmicks and killing the series we all love so much.

I have trouble believing that they are interested in or inspired by their drab grey-brown generic shooter. It's a money grab, and I was worried that it was going to happen from the moment they announced that they would be working with EA.

I could forgive their ceasing work on proper R&C games if they instead worked on something worthwhile like Sucker Punch worked on inFamous and Naughty Dog worked on Uncharted and now TLOU. But I do not like to see one of my favourite franchises ever reduced to a wreck like this whilst they focus resources on a generic co-op TPS.

They should make a full Ratchet and Clank again like crack in time. Not another psn game. But insomniac is in huge disarray right now over its future.

Time for hype

I think it will have a metacritic score like Quest for Booty. I have downloaded the demo, and it is quite good. Not as great as crack in time, but still good. It is worthy the $20.

Perhaps.  The thing I was trying to note with the part you bolded is that there are two teams that make up 'Insomniac Games' at the moment.  The Burbank studio and the North Carolina studio.  Burbank = everything from Disruptor to Resistance 3 + Fuse; North Carolina = All 4 One + this.  There's obviously a huge difference between the quality of the two teams because Burbank's last Ratchet game was "A Crack in Time" and I'd argue that no matter how generic the Resistance games were, they were still good games.  It's looking like the same can't be said for North Carolina's efforts so far.
