Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Digital Foundry Face-Off: Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition on Wii U

Yes I would definitely agree with that. In addition however part of the problem might lie with the hardware itself but it's too early to call that since we don't have all the information of the system. But porting an year old game shouldn't be that hard. Some of the comments on gaf suggested that the gamepad might also be a reason for the outcome. I think the biggest issue here is they are asking full price for this game. It's absolutely insane. On BlackFriday I got the goty edition for $20 new. On steam you can get this game for like $8 now.

That's a good point.

From a market perspective, it may be a good move, since the lazer-tag gizmo (B.A.T. mode) featureset could find an audience in younger teens that might own a U and not a PS360. From that perspective, and only business-wise, could I see it as a good move.

But in terms of looking to attract core gamers which were already interested or who already owned a version of the game, I fully agree with you.

As for judging the hardware, I also agree that it is a bad sign, and is dissappointing, but a true exclusive would give a better idea of what the console is capable of. Porting that to the twins would give a side-to-side comparison, it would be interesting if a similar trade-off due to lacking optimization would surface. I think having that kind of data is wishful thinking, but with the successors to the PS360 still a year away if not more, it could be possible.

If Nintendo knew this going in, they should have paid or helped devs to make custom ports. But if Nintendo isn't scared of negative press (which 95% will be read by "hardcore" gamers), then we know for sure who this U product is aimed mainly for (families).

I'll be happy with my U, but disappointed after Wii's success Nintendo didn't take advantage putting more $$$ into gfx tech to really steal PS360 fans (mostly fledgling PS fanbase) / shut people up. Nintendo truly robbed people with the Wii, just gaudy, disgusting pure profit.

Well better an batman version that is less enjoyable to play than no batman version.

Most of the games have been rushed and are lazy ports. Its just that simple. Expect Black Ops 2. What a great game on the Wii U. It happens to all the systems. Its not fair to the customers. When these games dont sell well, we know what they are going to say. See our games cant sell on a Nintendo System. Same bullshit.

Technically, Black Ops 2 is possibly the best version.  In practice, though....we need more players!  Yesterday, there was 140 people online and they were all playing Core Team Death Match.  There were probably more people online playing Call of Duty 2 from 2006!

BOPS 2 have the same problems in Wii U.

The 360 version is technically the best (in a world without PC of course).

I just skimmed it but I didn't see anything about the Wii U.  That was a 360 vs. PS3 comparison!  Even then, the reason I went with the Wii U is for the Wii Remote pointer controls and the optional screen gameplay (which I love).  I can except a small loss in quality in exchange for those features.  We definitely need more players, though.

And before I leave you all to play Xbox, I'll say this: If the Digital Foundry were around back in 2001, we'd all be convinced that the Dreamcast was more powerful than the PS2 because of all of the piss poor Dreamcast ports we were getting.

Peace out, bitches.

Well Dreamcast is not less powerful than PS2 but I need more research to confirm.

Don't forget all those SNES -> PSX ports showing that SNES was the more powerful system.

Disappointing. Guess I'll stick with my 360 version. That new Catwoman outfit is sexy, though. Not "$60 sexy" but stil......

Isn't it though?  Isn't it?

I agree. I think Nintendo should actively push for better quality ports. It's important they set a good image for the hardware before the next ps/xbox arrives. But definitely the first party devs will be the ones to push the hardware to the limit and could end up telling a different story. I think from a multiplat pov the worrisome thing here is that the wiiu could be in a situation worse than now when the other consoles launch. I read (I think yesterday, on gaf) that no 3rd party game has red steel numbers yet, from the wiiu launch. This could be because there's a lot of titles to choose from however so hopefully 3rd party publishers are not hasty in jumping to conclusions based off of the early figures. I think the good titles will end up having great legs thanks to good word of mouth.

And I agree...the addition of the new armors could entice non hardcore gamers for certain.
