It seemed like only last month Sony's dev kits were released, where as Microsoft's have already been up for bid on eBay.

Either Sony is crunching the R&D time for the PS4 or they've been working a lot harder than information has been getting leaked out about.

October launch would be best, it would gain momentum for the holidays like that and won't be supply constrained.
Launching on Black Friday week is probably the worst thing you could do, your console is overlooked by all these amazing deals and discounts....
