hmm..guys 500k at 50$ each is 25m $, i would be surprised if this game had cost them more than 5m

Where are you getting that 500k number? It only sold 180k in Japan, NPD's first month had it at 50k (VGC is likely overtracking it a bit since VGC has it at 120k). VGC has EU ar 90k which may or may not be accurate (I'd bet on a little overtracked though). Even going by VGC numbers it's only at 420k.

OK DUDE....400K AT 50$ IS 20M$, i doubt it has costed them more than 5m to make it

They don't make 50$ per unit LOL

Money from a 50$ game goes to retailers and transports and publishers and developers and console manufacturers and etc.

I'd say only about 20$ goes to Mistwalker (or Nintendo depending on what was the deal). So that makes roughly a little less than $10 million. The game was in development for at least a couple of years and so I really don't think they made that much money with the game. But considering it was financed by Nintendo who cares LOL

But for a publisher like XSEED who simply bought rights to publish it in NA surely made a good amount of money out of the deal.

Really? they dont make 50$ per unit? who would have thought. xD

the overall cost of making the game, publishing it, packagin and transporting it surely does not match the money this game has made overall

This game is been profitable for every part involved

I think it's a bit more complicated than that as well.  Usually money per sale goes solely to the publisher, and the publisher pays the developer a lump sum for the work done, and perhaps in the contract they'll get more if the game sells beyond expectations.  So the NA sales money would get mostly to Xseed, and they perhaps paid out some lump sum to Nintendo for the rights to publish it.  I'm sure it differs for every game, so it's really tough to say.

I guess yeah.

I really don't get why it's such a big secret though. Publishers never talk about that.

This article pretty much explains it all:

Well deserved, it's a very good game.

I'd like to think that this will teach NoA a much needed lesson, but I doubt they'll take note, sadly.

420k may seem small for a Nintendo game, but for a new IP and a JRPG in this day and age, it's actually quite respectable.

It seems smaller because it is a new IP by the Final Fantasy creator, so by default should have / could have gotten more attention...

While the market for jRPGs in America is generally not very good, considering how much advertisement xseed did for The Last Story (pretty much none, right?) ... What a huge cash cow for xseed. Operation Rainfall pretty much did all the advertising for them..

Wow that's an informative article, I was just basing my info off what Pachter said during one of his shows.  He may not be good at predicting but I think he's much more an expert on the finances of the business than any of us.
