It seems smaller because it is a new IP by the Final Fantasy creator, so by default should have / could have gotten more attention...
While the market for jRPGs in America is generally not very good, considering how much advertisement xseed did for The Last Story (pretty much none, right?) ... What a huge cash cow for xseed. Operation Rainfall pretty much did all the advertising for them..
