Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii U sold out practically everywhere~ More "prof" of Nintendomination this holiday!

Buying and selling consoles on eBay on or around the launch day is nothing new. It will continue to happen on all popular console launches in the future.

No big deal to the manufacturers or retailers, they get the price they ask for and eventually the consoles will end up in someone's home, it's not like it is going to be tossed in the bin.

It's doing well. Much better than 3DS or Vita launches, but no where near the hysteria of the Wii launch in 2006.

That was insane trying to find one, I remember some older housewife type in front of me had a melt down when the store started turning people away, lol.

If you really want one and/or are willing to settle for the Basic pack, you can probably still find a Wii U today with a little looking around at retail.

This can't be right.... I thought the WiiU was suppose to fail?

It doesn't mean anything in the long term, it's a given that most home console launches are an automatic sell-out these days, especially since eBay scalpers buy up a good chunk of the first shipment along with hardcore Nintendo faithful.

And this week is the Black Friday shopping rush, so whatever stock manages to make it out that is sure to be gone.

You'll probably see a better idea of what the Wii U's future is post-holiday.

I think you are right, I spent the better part of this evening returning the 4 extra Wii U's I had after I saw the ebay bidding on the system last night and this afternoon.  I feel that its currently sold out because people wanted to cash in (me included!) bought the system but most will find it hard to flip like the ps3 and wii back in 2006.  Im content with the system but alot has changed in 6 years.

Hard economic times, mate.

Well considering how the economy is in the USA, people are not as desperate to buy an over prices eBay WiiU just on day 1 of launch.

They are willing to wait an extra month or whatever to get their WiiU at regular retail price.

Hell I paid $1000 at retail for my PS3 in AUS, I am not doing that again considering I had to return the original one. I will wait for the PS4 price drop.

I saw 5 deluxe bundles at walmart today. 3 other stores I went to were sold out.

I hope those price gouging eBay resellers get hosed. People these days are much more savvy when it comes to online shopping and spending money, especially in this kind of economy. Those who thought they were going to be able to do with the Wii U what they did with PS360 (and even the Wii) are in for a rude awakening this holiday.

I bet if you waited till after X-mas (or even a few days before) most of these sellers will have dropped their prices drastically in an effort to just get their money back.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

If I remember right, every major console (not portable) sells out at launch like the PS3, 360 and the Wii.
