Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 dev kit news has surfaced!

Honestly I can't see how Sony can afford to launch a new console and operate at a loss for the next couple years again. This could be the end of the Playstation brand unless they come up with something totally revolutionary and not always rely on the horsepower, and graphics. Let's face it the Vita was a flop, and the PS3 has only recently started turning a slim profit for Sony and is still struggling in the North American market. Sony is headed for bankruptcy because they are losing ground in the TV business, cameras, music, phones, etc. The Playstation's glory days are over and people need to get real.

Sony has made it known that they are focusing more on their gaming area as thats where they've been profiting as of late. The PS3 was profitable, though the Vita is sucking the life out of the profits. Every gen comes new possibilities and next gen will make or break how well Sony does or not. Last gen Sony flatlined both Nintendo and Microsoft only for them to come back in their own respective ways. You get real.

I wish Sega would make another console run, and take back what was rightfully theirs. Sega would bring some excitement and passion back to the console business like they did in the 90s. A Dreamcast 2 and Shenmue 3 would be awesome.

I hope it's the most powerful of the three next gen consoles, but at the same time, easier to code for, so we don't see shoddy ports again, lol.

It will be fine. They wont make the same mistake twice. They know what they need to do now. We'll all find out soon.

Yeah that's what they said about the Vita too....

So basically you're billing them for failure?

The Sony is dying trolls are here in full force, all sony threads are almost unbearable.

I don't care much for these rumors but there is a point where the news reporter says "this is to ensure that it can play games at 1080p and 60 fps in 3D"...

Sadly PS4 won't be able to do this as the 3D spec doesn't support 1080p anything over HDMI. 1080p @ 24fps for bluray is max it can do. Only connection allowing for 1080p 3D gaming is dual link DVI.

Also, even if magically they decided to include a Dual Link DVI port on some new TVs, there is no way in hell next gen will be able to do 1080p 3D @60 fps with an AMD APU. You'd need a latest Intel i5 and a GTX 680 to do that.

Otherwise, carry on with rumors...

That quote is from a Sony statement about the dev kits when it leaked a little while ago. Anyway, it could mean 1080p at 60fps "and" 3D. Whether that means 1080p at 60fps during 3D, idk. Maybe they are shooting for that, but given certain limitations will only be acheived by people with the proper set up. It doesn't mean that it is what everyone will have, just a benchmark for what it can be capable of.

Unless they invent a new TV plug, or allow for dual HDMI cables to be plugged in to brand new 4K resolution TVs or something, they technically just can't do 3D 1080p @ 60 hz. Not enough bandwidth to do it over HDMI.

Most people with PCs that do 3D gaming (like myself) have been bitching about this for years now, as we can't buy a brand new 3D TV and play at the same 3D Quality we are used to playing on dedicated dual link 3D monitors.

If they are able to do a stable 720p 3D at 60 FPS, it will be a big success to be honest. That means games will run at 1080p 60 fps in 2D, which is the most we can ask for next gen. This is the maximum supported by 99% of TVs available and sold for the next 5 years at least.

As much as I loved Sega, their time came as they never grew from being an arcade style developer. Most of the games they published only achieved niche sales.

What's that suppose to mean? Did they launch a handheld system that is selling at a loss and is hard to code for? Don't be that guy.

One of PSP's biggest flaws was it tried to mimic console gaming.  While this worked at first it eventually stagnated.  The Vita is doing the same thing with a high price point like the PS3's launch with no titles that appeals to a mass amount of people.  They learned nothing from the PSP or the PS3 launch looking at the Vita.  That is what that meant.

Well how about you take your cheap shot analysis elsewhere. Console gaming on a handheld isn't a flaw, it's an overused justification. Games are games. Console games present a level of quality, one that is more on board with modern tech levels. The Vita reaching that level isn't a bad thing. It means better games. There are plenty of great games on the Vita, ones that appeal to a variety of people.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Are you just talking stereoscopic? What about active 3D? Isn't that different. Anyway, those HD levels and frame rate levels will be great to have no matter how they manage the 3D.

This is really old news guys. Get with the program!

What the hell are you babbling here? Read the HDM I 1.3 specs and then read HDMI 1.4 specs to fully wake up..

You really wanna get in to a 3D argument with me?

I know that the HDMI 1.4a standard has support for 1080p@60 3D. To utilize this standard TV';s need have an HDMI chip that runs at 297 mhz. These chips aren't availabl in commercial TVs just yet. 4K TV's will use them as will possibly other high end 1080p TV's in the next few years but not a single TV sold today at your local Best buy supports 3D at 1080p@60hz
