Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Ubisoft fully support WiiU, but isn't happy with the high console price

This means that when the new xbox and playstation systems come out he will be complaining about the price of those systems as well.

If Wii U is expensive, can't wait for the other two consoles. What will he say then?

Xxactly my thoughts.

Full support means that every major multiplatform title will launch day and date with the 360/PS3 versions on the Wii U. They have yet to confirm that some of them will come at all.

What's going on at the moment may very well be that they'll wait and see how their initial software wave performs before they seriously commit to the system. This will naturally lead to a situation where the Wii U versions of games will suffer everytime, because they will launch weeks or months later than the other versions, feeding a neverending circle of lacking support.

What are the multi-plats from Ubi you're alluding to?

This is their coming soon schedule. I see all WiiU exclusives, 360 exclusives and WiiU/360 multi-plats.

Looks like Ubi can talk.

EDIT: Wow, nevermind, their site sucks so much. Here is the PS3 schedule.

There are 3 games missing:

- Splinter Cell Blacklist

- Farcry 3

- Rainbow 6 Patriots

In contrast with the exclusives Ubi is offering, this is no big deal. They have supported Nintendo's launch more than any other launch I can remember.

Our local retailer has the Wii U gamepads at an estimated $200AUD preorder. The fact the console is only $350AUD makes me think that Nintendo are risking a lot with this gamepad functionality. If anything the price of the console is fine but I wonder how much it would be if the Pro Controller was the standard controller and how much more power they could have put into the system had the gamepad not been considered.

Regardless of those graphs, it is priced higher than the 360 and the PS3, which are in the same graphics range. When people need to choose between one or another price matters.

The screen is really the only value add, as well as the new games. But the PS360 have a massive library. The price is a bit steep, but during the holidays it's a tempting purchase regardless. I have to admit that the 3DS came out in march, which was a bad time to offer a steep price. Christmastime always makes a product more alluring.

So, is graphics capability (for which the Wii U's potential remains to be seen) is the barometer for price?  I mean, the Wii was kind of on par with the Gamecube, Xbox, and PS2 but the price for the Wii was $250 while the Gamecube was sub $99.  The last gen consoles had massive libraries, too.

I think what he is trying to say is that too the average person, they probably wont see much of a difference between PS360/Wii U, besides the tablet pad. I kinda agree. IMHO the asking price isnt worth it to play a few new games and games that one could already get on a console they have or could get for cheaper. The wii is a bad comparison, because it released after 360 was already out and the gen started in earnest. Wii U will be competing with cheaper consoles on the market that could play most of the same games.

Here is a point I totally missed earlier.

Isn't it software that is meant to sell more hardware? Which in turn will lead to more sales of your other games.

Therefore shouldn't we be expecting from the UBISOFT CEO an annoucement saying we are releasing more AAA killer app game? i.e Far Cry 3

its not Ubisoft's job to sell hardware, that makes no sense. That is on Ninty, why should Ubisoft spend money making AAA games on a system that is only just coming out?

Probably the same thing. Whats your point?

The more a console is expansive, the more consumers will demand for value in return.

If the console is expansive it's harder to sell games without value.

There is also Watch Dogs, a game that has been hailed as the second coming by the gaming press when it was unveiled. And these four games are a big deal, because it implies that Ubisoft hasn't integrated the Wii U in multiplatform development yet.

Remember what the no-quality-third-party-games-for-the-Wii movement was all about: The system not being able to run 1:1 ports of games. The Wii U can, but we already got signs from numerous big publishers that they won't bring their games to Nintendo's console. This isn't about potential PS4/720 games not coming, this is about PS3/360 games not coming. We are talking about ports that wouldn't even need to move 500k copies on the Wii U to make it worth the additional investment and it's known since a long time that the Wii U is coming. This isn't a system that was announced and launched within six months.

I understand your concern, and it's valid, but in light of the Ubi exclusives the WiiU is getting, one simply cannot say Ubi is not, overall, backing the U.

BUT, having said that, do you believe that their not porting those big name multi-plat games to the U makes a statement regarding U support for that market? In other words do you think that them saying "We're not releasing those games on the U" means that they want to set it in the kiddy corner, so to speak?
