Forums - Gaming Discussion - Silicon Knights ordered to recall and destroy all unsold copies of Too Human, X-Men Destiny, more

Silicon Knights is already broke, and between the recall and court ordered pay-out they are going to be bankrupt.

I kinda feel sorry for them but they picked this fight with Epic and released that trash that was X-men: Destiny.

Hopefully someone picks up the Eternal Darkness IP and does something worthwhile with it.

Guys, I think it's already been leaked that Eternal Darkness 2 was in development at one point and cancelled.

I was just thinking, are there any developers who were close to Nintendo in the N64/Gamecube days that are still meaningful after moving towards Sony or Microsoft with the XBox 360 or PS3?

Factor 5 and Silicon Knights were both strong developers who would have (probably) been better off focusing on the Wii ...

I worry for Silicon Knights now. I hope they don't disappear into the night like so many other game developers have recently. Blood Omen and Eternal Darkness are really good games. And The Twin Snakes is great too. Sure, Too Human was a poor game, but they've done good work in the past.

Apparently there are only 5 people left at the company.

I don't know about the other titles but I believer Nintendo still owns the Eternal Darkness IP.  They just recently trademarked it sometime this year actually.  Well here's hoping the big N decides to pick up the IP's if the SK ever goes under.  It seems like one of may developers that can't find success after leaving Nintendo as a 2nd party developer (Retro, Factor 5 and now Silicon Knights).

Rare, Acclaim and Midway were doing great after leaving Nintendo behind.

Are they STILL doing great as of present day or did they do great in the past after leave Big N?

Generation 8 Predictions so far.....(as of 9/2013)

Console that will sell most: Nintendo Wii U

Who will sell more consoles between Microsoft/SONY: SONY

Rare is a shell of its former self. Acclaim and Midway went bankrupt.

likely the same would have happened to Rare had they not been bought by Microsoft.

This happens when you "leave" Nintendo JK :)

My thoughts exactly. At this rate, many small developers will be too scared to work for Nintendo.

Working for/with Nintendo is the game dev equivalent of the Madden curse.

With companies like Rare and Silicon Knights there is no curse involved ...

Being a second party developer for Nintendo meant that these companies had much greater access to technical and creative resources, and had a budget that was (pretty much) unlimited as long as they ended up producing a quality game. Games like Too Human could have probably been "saved" had a company like Nintendo been willing to delay them for a year, and give them the support of high quality designers to "fix" their issues. No third party publisher would ever agree to that though ...
