Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why can't we forget about the Console Wars...?

Yeah, we have all been apart of this generation's console war. Whether your favorite console be the Magnificent PlayStation 3, the innonative Wii, or the Online Savvy Xbox 360; we all forget one thing. They all do what their job, to keep us enertained. People who want the extra firepower and superior graphics will flock to the PS3, people who want the Organized and hardcore multiplayer experience will herd to the Xbox 360, and the people who want to try something new while staying in shape will hed to the Wii. Thats the thing about these consoles, they each have their own pros and cons, and the consumer should know that each console provides a different experience for each type of gamer. So the only true way to be the REAL winner of the console war? Easy, to own all three consoles. Wanna play some single-player with god-like graphics that could only be found in a James Cameron movie? Then fire up that PS3. Wanna hop online to play some Battlefield, Halo, or Gears with your buddies from school/work? Then turn on the Xbox. Wanna have fun while staying on your feet? Then get that nunchuk.

Now with that out of the way, it doesn't make sense that fellow console gamers would fight and aruge over something they bought while the overall console gaming market is in a slump. As console gamers, we should forget about that silly argument, and get over the fanboyism. Because the fanboyism is holding back the gaming industry.

Thanks for taking your time to listen to my rant.

I think the awful thing about fanboyism is that it forces polarization. You see people being goaded into fanboyish behavior by true fanboys, and it just seems to escalate from there. If your favorite game is Uncharted, or Halo, or Mario, and you see some nimrod come in and insult it for groundless reasons, then it does get under your skin. Pretty soon it becomes a back-and-forth round of insults. It's like a cancer or a virus.

I think that it's pretty clear the worst fanboys should be stamped out as soon as they are identified so that they do not infect the rest of the herd.

Haven't you heard the news? It's not about console wars anymore, only a few thousand gaming company fans around the world still fight over future console specs and other things only 1% of them understand or actually care about anyway. Console wars is so 2007.

All other people have moved on and participate in the real thing of 2012: Smartphone wars (plus emerging and promising sideshow: tablet PC wars). SP wars are much more diverse and spread, you can find the numerous warriors on almost every website these days. The companies do their part, sue each other, diss each other in ads and on twitter. This is more entertaining than Wii vs. HD Twins ever was or Wii U vs. "real next gen" ever will be. Also: SP wars are faster. "Galaxy S4, will it look like this?" rumors emerged soon after iPhone 5 announcement. Next up: iPhone 5s rumors. Many people who never bought a console before bought a Wii. These people will never buy another console but many of them will upgrade their SP every year. And in the meantime Foxconn workers blow up a few factories. That's the real deal, at least until we found another way to fool ourselves.

Because everything gets so much more awesome when war is involved.

Console wars are great. Similar to favorite sports teams, they make it so much funner. The problem is when console wars become games-on-consoles wars. As a fan I need to understand games on other consoles aren't automatically bad. For example I don't own a 3DS, don't like the 3DS, and love to death my Vita. But I still like games on the 3DS. Am I making any sense? lol

Forgetting the console wars is like dividing by zero.

the world collapses

VGCHARTS became popular because of console sales. When most people look at the sales they use it as ammo for there war.

Ignoring Console Wars is like traveling at the speed of light; it can't be done - all according to Einstein himself.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

In a nut shell

Fanboys

Known for a complete lack of objectivity in relation to their preferred focus. Usually argue with circular logic that they refuse to acknowledge. Arguments or debates with such are usually futile. Every flaw is spun into semi-virtues and everything else, blown to comedic, complimentary proportions.

Insult/chastise others for using public forums to express an objective opinion, no matter how constructive or, respectful it may be. Go ahead and admit that it's a good game/movie/etc. This fact and anything else will be promptly ignored in favor of cherry picking the negative, and beating you over the head with it.
