Predictions to a console before launch plus the droughts and no 3rd party support. It was evident that high number predictions won't work. Nintendo even admitted about the high price point of the Wii U hence they couldn't really drop the price. It is just steady low expectations plus Japan as we all know isn't that good for home consoles.
Without Splatoon I think Wii U would have more depressing sales.

Best thread ever. Seriously, this just shows us that you cant predict new gen sales based on how popular they were the prior gen.

Wii - Wii U. From first to third.
PS3 - PS4. From third to first.

PS3 was second, not third. It's lifetime sales are ahead of the X360 even though it came out a year later.

I didn't expect the *entire* casual audience to abandon Nintendo, I thought they'd be able to hold at least a minority portion of them, but smartphones/tablets have really completely eaten that audience alive.

1/3 of smartphone owners apparently play games on a regular basis every week, that means you're talking about an audience of about 150+ million ... likely a lot of those people playing Candy Crush on phones today were playing Wii Sports maybe 7-8 years prior.

1. No one cares about the Vita's numbers, even Sony.

2. People say this site has more Nintendo fans (in comparision to Playstation and Xbox), not only.
