Forums - PC Discussion - The original Crysis: still the best looking game ever?

That's crazy, looks like cgi.

If I remember correctly. There was an article that actually tested this. And Crysis 1 was still the best looking game. Evidently to port the Cryengine to consoles, they had to lose 10% of it's capabilities. Unfortunately this carried over to the PC versions of Crysis 2 as well.

Crysis 1 was also using the full capabilities of what DX 10 had to offer. Had crysis 2 been from the start based on DX11, we would likely be saying it was the best.

That's ugly imo, looks nowhere near as good as a CGI film even from 1999. There's way too much motion blur, low-poly environments, flat foliage, horrible colour desaturation and unrealistic lighting. I can think of a lot of games that look better, maybe I'll edit this post with some screenshots later if I can be bothered, unlikely.

Metro: Last Light is so far the best looking game I've ever seen, check out some gameplay videos of that.

holy cow!! that looked amazing!! too much motion blur though. ohh and also doesnt the fram rate seem lower than avarage? the video didnt seem smooth at all

I disagree, GT5, GoW3, UC3, BF3 on Ultra and Witcher 2 look better.

Doesn't some ps3 exclusive surpass by now?

Oh my god... I got a migraine watching that. :( It looks beautiful, but the camera is so shaky and there is SO much motion blur that I felt like I was going to throw up. x_x

Why is motion blur "the thing" with advancing technology? Do these developers' eyes blur up and do their heads shake like crazy when they run outside?

Most of it was blur because the player had been shot, so it was a way to give the game a more immersive feel. Harder to focus when you're hurt and stuff like that.

I got a headache before he even went into battle. Also, the blur kept up way after the enemy soldiers were dead. As did the shaky cam. I hate that stuff so much. :(

Underlined: No. None of those come anywhere close.

The rest, Battlefield 3 on Ultra, potentially. The Witcher 2 does look pretty f*ing great, but it doesn't look overall better than Crysis.

On my 50" plasma however, they do come close. I would even add Wip3out HD, 1080p glory at 60fps.

I get not liking that stuff, but it adds to the realism and immersion.

I disagree, I don't think it adds realism and immersion - it does the opposite for me. When I run around, my head doesn't flop around like my neck has no bones (yes I'm exaggerating a bit), and my eyes also don't blur. Cameras blur and shake, human eyes don't. And having a camera for a head in a First person video game is something I don't like. :P

@ Pezus, I like that one more, but those turtle's movements are so shaky they remind me of the girl from The Ring movie. :P
