Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The Size of 3DS Games

Based on my Similar Thread at GameTrailers

A while back, the actual size of some 3DS games (in terms of MB and GB) was officially released by Nintendo Gamer. Using this info plus what I've found on a variety of websites, I've made a list of 3DS games arranged by their size in GB. I thought that maybe it would provoke some interesting conversation.

Note: The exact size of games varies from region to region. Therefore, information below is almost certainly not 100% correct where you live.

My observations: Depending on the games you buy, the 2/4 GB card that comes with the 3DS could either fill up pretty quickly or could always remain sufficent. A behemoth like MGS3 is simply too big for the typical 2 GB card, but the various Mario games could all squeeze in together.

Also, some odd size comparisons.

Star Fox 64 3D > Ocarina of Time 3D = Cave Story 3D

Order Up!! = Super Mario 3D Land

Mighty Switch Force > Rayman Origins

Lets Golf 3D > Pilotwings Resort

The Amazing Spider-Man = Pushmo times 81

Any more data or interesting observations?

I made a bet with JoeTheBro on February 19, 2014. I say the 3DS will outsell the PS4 at least one month in 2014, he says the 3DS won't. Whoever is right gets to control the other person's sig for a month.

Well, I just bought a 32 Gb card from eBay for $11, so I think I'm set.

Wow pretty good deal.  I believe I dropped about 30 on mine a year or so back.  32 GB is enough for a long time considering I have over 30+ games downloaded from the eshop and it doesn't even put a dent in my SD card.

wow! @ non Nintendo games being a lot bigger than Nintendo games. Does that mean Nintendo can still squeeze a lot into future games compared with what they are doing now?

That is mostly because Nintendo doesn't uses too much CGI animation, rather than that, almost always uses animation via ingame models. Also Nintendo saves some space in the audio department.

What is Nintendo's most CGI intensive game?  Metroid: Other M?  I have no clue since I never got it.  Perhaps, I'll get it cheap someday.

Yeah, i agree with Other M, also Fire Emblem uses it to tell part of the history. Other that those cases, CGI plays a minor role for Nintendo

Meh. Sony Vita 32G card is worth 10 times more. Price = quality.

What's the difference between the two? The one I got is Sandisk. Sandisk cards have worked perfectly for me in the past.

He was joking.  Besides maybe reading just a little faster if that the only difference is that Sony requires their own memory while Nintendo allows you to shop around for a nicely priced SD/ HCSD card.  Remember Galaki = joke.  Buying a SD card for the 3DS is about half the price or so as a PSV card.
