I'm getting error code on all my Wii games (actually just Smash Bros. and RE4, I'm too lazy to check all). It appears in Resident Evil 4 Wii after the screen goes black from exiting the inventory screen and it appeared in Smash Bros. a few mins after the character selection screen in Brawl mode. Loading times take forever as well. My Wii can still run Netflix and VC games perfectly though and Smash Bros and RE4 barely have any scratches on them, so I'm assuming its just the lens that are messed up. Any VGcharters know how to clean the Wii lens without using cleaning kits? And if I do have to use cleaning kits, what is the best one to use?

Sounds like you do need to use a cleaning kit. Too bad it's not like the old NES where you just blow in it or bang it around a few times.

Hopefully a kit is all you need and it's not the disc drive failing.

Edit: Cleaning kits are cheap. Try that first before trying to repair.

I've had the drive fail on me before. Is the game just kind of stalling out, where it will try to load but sound like it's loading consistently?

It's not too painful to ship it in. The $75 hurts more, but then you gain a one-year warranty, which was perfect for when my whole CPU fried less than a year later and i got the whole thing replaced for free.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Put your Wii in the freezer for a few hours. Trust me, it works!

I replaced the DVD drive motor on my Wii, got it for $7 online or something.

When it crapped out again I softmoded it and now run all my games from a hard drive instead.

Softmod that guy

I had a similar problem about 2 years ago. Do you have the Wii vertical or horizontal? Mine was vertical and the wii wouldnt read the game discs so i placed it horizontally and guess what it worked. Havent had a problem since.

Lol, it's like the reverse of the PS1... my friend had to stand his on it's side or lay it upside down to get it to work.

I might try that later. Thanks for the tip!

I would suggest calling Nintendo instead of doing anything risky. I called Nintendo when my Wii was reading discs incorrectly do to a part inside the Wii actually being melted. I was like, "What the Hell?"

Still, it got fixed and now it works perfectly.
