Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is Nintendo holding back Wii U information? Black Ops 2 a launch title?

I think it could be the case of Retro studios, where the CEO basically didn't want what they were working on revealed as of yet. Besides, those games were already shown for other consoles, a third time probably wouldn't mean much for Nintendo when they wanted to explain how the system worked and what games they were bringing to it.

Later down the road I suspect we will get the information we need.

Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward = best game ever made.

You seem to be engaged in some goalpost moving here. No one said Nintendo isn't making ANY push for core gamers. You did say they were making a "big" push. If they want to make a big push for core gamers, they need to either moneyhat big exclusives left and right or produce first party games that are appealing to core gamers. Simply saying, "Yeah, we're getting some games, whatever, and here's a controller we made for you, and maybe our online won't suck this time, I dunno, we'll see," isn't going to cut it. A big part of the reason Nintendo is on course to find itself left out in the cold once the PS4/Nextbox launch isn't just because of any technological disparity that will make it more work to put those games on their system, but because they don't seem at all interested in courting core gamers who aren't already Nintendo fans. All the games that were smash hits on the Wii were ones that followed Nintendo's own lead, while the ones that tried to bring "mature content" to the Wii failed pretty miserably. If Nintendo wants to change the existing dynamic, they will have to do it themselves.

This is a fantastic post.

I will disagree on a few minor points:

1) It's not that Nintendo isn't interested, I just believe they really are that incompetent when it comes to attracting the core.

2) I believe 3rd party mature exclusives are important, as well as 1st party mature content. However, the baseline is to at least have all the multi-plats. They didn't even show that at E3. They showed some, but the baseline was not there.

On 2), I agree that Nintendo really failed with the 1st party mature content. Exclusives is less of a bomb, we get ZombiU and Amored Edition, as well as Rayman Legends (don't tell me that's not core after all the gaga PS360 owners went on Origins, plox).

Money says if ZombiU had been shown for any other platform, core gamers would be shitting their britches with delight.

QFT. Though I agree with badge that it's a step, but not a big enough step in the right direction. But at least it's a step, and a nice one too.

I'm really looking forward to ZombiU. I personally believe that the people shitting on ZombiU are blatant trolls. It's sad, but true.

These people will never be satisfied, so to hell with them.

Nintendo also didn't spend conference time on Assassin's Creed III focusing instead on game experiences unique to Nintendo's new Wii U console. They didn't cover Ninja Gaiden III which they are publishing themselves. Bunch of other games as well.

Most of these we know because these were still available on display form their publishers, developers, or at the Nintendo booth.

This whole discussion is completely off-topic & irrelevant. It doesn't matter what your belief is about Nintendo & the core gamer. The original question is: "if black ops 2 and madden are launch titles for the wii U, then why did Nintendo not reveal them yet? Why would they hold that information back?" Answer that question, that's all i want to know, i dont care about your heartfelt & dedicated beliefs about Nintendo & the "Core" gamer.

That's what we were talking about, and the question has been answered. It's simple.

Nintendo is incompetent at E3 presentations, and hitting the mark where it counts.

Cheers

They aren't incompetent, though! Or at least they weren't always. They just need to listen when people tell them what they want. If they had ended their E3 with F-Zero U instead of the F U that was Nintendoland, the entire internet would be writing the obituaries for Playstation and Xbox.

I guess I can't really say about Rayman. On the one hand, Origins didn't sound like it sold all that great (but I haven't seen any reliable numbers). On the other, Ubi said it was profitable for them. All I know is, I liked Origins well enoguh, but what they showed of Legends looked atrocious to me. The gimmicks seemed so forced, and I didn't really get the rhythm part at all. It's probably not even going to be an exclusive given Ubi's weasel language. All in all, the third party content so far has been unimpressive.

They absolutely needed to get a lot of multiplatform titles as a bare minimum, and they seem to be doing that for now. But if you are a Nintendo fan who thinks third parties are always out to screw over Nintendo or a core gamer who is shy of buying a Nintendo console because they always get such lousy support, why would you have any confidence that things have really changed?

That's true, but at least they made a really brief appearance in the sizzle reel of 3rd party games. Why would Nintendo not put Black Ops 2 or Madden in the sizzle reel? They both seem very sizzle worthy to me.

I'm guessing it's because Nintendo wants to have launch titles to reveal throughout the next few months. Then, it will seem as though they're building on the decent launch software foundation laid out at E3, and build hype for Wii U.

Hey, I didn't say it was a good strategy. E3 was weird this year.

It's kind of strange that there's a Nintendo Gamer article floating around about Black Ops 2 coming for Wii U in November, making it a launch window game. There was also some rumors that Madden will be a launch game as well. So my question to everyone is- why in the hell would Nintendo be holding this info back at their e3 conference?

Simple - Nintendo aren't ready to talk about their online system in detail, so they're holding back the official announcements and unveilings of games that would prompt extensive questioning, etc.

Also, they probably didn't want any games shown at their conference to be the same games shown at Sony's or MS's conferences. Microsoft showed off both titles. There seems to be more than just a couple of titles held off from being shown at E3, likely so that Nintendo can have plenty of content to show off when it comes time to talk about Nintendo Network in detail... which will probably happen in August.
