Forums - Website Topics - VGChartz Forum Changes

@ioi how sure are you about these changes? These are pretty big changes...especially the split of the site. You could end up with a scenario where VGC loses certain functionality and then people get pissed and leave (game collections etc.), and some people simply wont move over to the new site which will concentrate on all these things.

I just have a bad feeling about all this, in the end the community is gonna be weakened. Anyways you guys probably know what you doing. So il have faith.

Please no radical change. I like the stuff in the OP but I think over the years VGC has had far too many overhauls. Maybe I am captain obvious now, because most people probably don't like change when they're accustomed and comfortable with something.

About sub forums as a daily visitor I only ever use Hot topics and I feel like I don't miss anything, but perhaps if you don't come here so often it would become overwhelming to scan through all threads made in the last couple of days, so it would perhaps be easier to catch up if you only have to search through the one particular sub-forum you are interested in.

I would like we had 6 sub-forums:

Gaming and sales
Nintendo
Sony
MS
Off topic
Web-site

Sales should definitely be seperate from gaming IMO.

Just have:

Sales

Nintendo

Sony

MS

PC, Mobile, other

Off-topic

Announcements/web-site stuff

Oops, I forgot PC.

With your option, where would multiplatform games go?

Personally, I don't even know if we need something like individual company/platform sections. This is what I would think is necessary...

Announcements (always keep this on top, and keep it locked to where only mods/admins can create topics, and maybe even posts)
Gaming (you could potentially split this into Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, PC)
Sales
Off Topic
Website Issues/Suggestions

@spurgeon - what do you mean about the gamrReview articles? A mobile version of the site in general would make a lot of sense

@BasilZero - the game collections, ratings etc will be moved over to another project which will focus far more on this functionality

Would that be GameWise? -.- It sucks that we can't have collections on here anymore...

Anyway. No like buttons please.

What Boutros said about seeing a Avatar of the creator of a thread might be nice. You could make it a small thumbnail size.

And please make those tag words come true! That would be AMAZING! Also, fix up the whole search part of VGC, it's really broken.

Do what you have to do, just tired of hearing about these looming changes and want to see it in action already.

Avoid multiple Quotes, so it only appears what the person you're quoting write to avoid walls of text.

Where is the Game Collection going to be moved? So I won't be able to see it in my profile or what's the idea? The game Collection is one of my favorite things here that should be improved and easy to access, not the other way around.

To people saying "No to Like buttons", why is your reason? I go to a Football forum where there's something similar but is a "Thanks" button which is really useful, when someone writes something you like, instead of quoting that person to say stuff like "Oh I agree blabla..." you just thank him and at the bottom appears who agrees or likes your post. I think it can be useful here and will help avoid unnecessary texts.

I think it would be cool for the site to be like it was a few years ago. (although I cant really remember what the site was like then as I was a lurker)

I'm fine with a like button so long as the person being liked is the only one who can see the likes.

Personally I wouldn't try to split the users into 2 sites and forum and just make this forum a bit more streamlined and faster. Get rid of everything below the offline/online at our avatars.. Don't need that stuff and probably will load the page faster cause it won't look in the database to look which badges and games to display.. Set a fixed height for the avatars.. Lump back the different sub forums into 6 or 7 categories.. Make a hot topics page divided by the latest 10 threads of each categories.. Keep forum buddy but place it on the right side so people can actually see it cause now its in a negative margin and is cut off on smaller laptop screens and tablets.. Update the rich text editor so we can place iframe videos.. For the rest we are fine.. 2008 is gone and we will never go back to that situation again.. The site grew, users grew older and left and we are now having a different kind of generation of gamers who are the main bulk on this site.. You won't fix that by trying to go back to 2008..
