The games have either an adult target audience or adult thematic elements.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Yes, but not at the expense of existing IPs so they don't upset fans.
Expand. Create new studios and develop some new IPs, because until you do that you shall remain dead to me.

Sure.  Wiii Fit is obviously targeted at health concious adults and the Mario games deal with kidnapping and drugs.

Actually, it's just a list of the best selling games of all time which is a way of showing that Nintendo doesn't need to expand into mature game development when what they do already sells so damn well.

It'd be up to Retro to do it, but they're probably busy with a new Metroid or other game based off existing Nintendo IPs. Nintendo themselves never have and never will develop an M-rated game.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

That is what I was thinking.

It should not matter the rating, but I will say the vast majority of games I play are rated M or Teen. Though I do think if they wanted my business all they need is new IPs period. I would certainly prefer teen or above, but it is not a must.

From an overall sales perspective, probably not because their most loyal customers obviously do not play many mature rated titles on that console.

And yes I damn well might respect them more if they started offering more variety.
