Forums - Sales Discussion - Sony sees record $6.4 billion net loss, to take tax hit

Once again I'm amazed at how people casually suggest getting rid of the TV division. Sure there's definitely an argument about it needing to be dropped, but something like that would have been unthinkable 10-20 years ago.

How times change.

The PS3 and the Vita are both part of the problem but Sony never gonna admit this to the public. They have to do this because the PS4-project is in big danger.

Problem how? Actually, PS3 is making a profit since 2010. Vita manufacturing cost is 160 dollars. They're probably making profit on it aswell as the memory cards. If you read the article it says Sony loses money becoz of the TV division and losses will be even bigger because of tax write offs wich Sony can't use becoz the losses are so big.

If this article was posted in a financially oriented forum, the doom and gloom for the PS brand like here wouldn't even happen.

No they are not (http://www.pocketgamer.biz/r/PG.Biz/PlayStation+Vita/news.asp?b=related&c=30520)

this is probably why the memory cards are so expensive, to absorb the loss they are taking on the vita

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Their profits are so minimal that's embarrassing to even mention it. Sony never released profit numbers of the PS3 and they never said what the manufacturing costs of the Vita are.

No one to blame but themselves. They just sit still while Samsung, LG and the likes dominate in the manufacturing side.

You can't compete in price when you don't make your own hardware parts.

i´ve said this for years... Sony and Playstation brand wll be dead in no time.

Vita doesnt sell, its dead, Ps3 is selling well but when holidays come and Xbox drops Price and Wii u come out it will be 3rd or 4th once AGAIN!

Sony doesnt know what they are doing, they are a dumb company behind a big name.

Wow, my brains can not process how stupid this sounds. How is a company dumb? hiding behind a big name? Kids really shouldn't get emotional what and how a company fares. The outcome will be this.

Don't let him get to you, dude. He's probably just jealous that his favorite company isn't setting any records.

The sooner apple buy the "PlayStation" brand, the better. Sinking ship.

 Apple has no history in gaming, they tried with Pippin and failed. Apple empire will fall, it will happen just like it happened to IBM, Microsoft, Sony companies that ruled the 80s and 90s.

It was the "old" apple, c'mon, when they produced famous things like the newton or the office-free Power Macintosh. There's the pre-ipod (some say imac) apple and the post-ipod apple. Totally different. They succeeded in gaming in the post-ipod era.

And are you sure IBM and Microsoft falled from grace? Check their market cap.

With Sony, I agree, it's incredible how the mighty have fallen. Everything was Sony. Now I give you 100 bucks if you manage to find someone holding a Sony tablet within 1 hour. Make it 10 hours!

Microsoft
1992: Employees: 15.300 revenue: 2.777 billion USD

2002: Employees: 50.000 revenue: 28.365 billion USD

2011: Employees: 90.000 revenue: 69.943 billion USD

--> When did they collapse?!

IBM
1999: Employees: ??? revenue: 64 billion USD

2002: Employees: 316.000 revenue 81 billion USD

2011: Employees: 426.000 revenue: 107 billion USD

--> When did they collapse?!

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Excellent news! I'm still looking forward to the end of Sony. There are many better companies for all the electronics that they do. I'm ok with them staying in the movie & music business tho. Outside of that, it's retirement time for them!
