The sooner apple buy the "PlayStation" brand, the better. Sinking ship.

Apple has no history in gaming, they tried with Pippin and failed. Apple empire will fall, it will happen just like it happened to IBM, Microsoft, Sony companies that ruled the 80s and 90s.

Don't lump IBM and MS in with Sony, IBM made $15 billion in profit last year and Microsoft made $23 billion in profit that is just $2 billion less profit than Apple which made $25b profit.

Said this would happen when the numbers were announced last quarter. What is interesting to me about it is they have now changed their forecast three times. Going from expecting profit, to then saying in feb they would have a loss of £1.7BN to now saying a loss of £4BN. And some of you guys use their numbers as "gospel"? The truth is Sony hasen't a clue what they are doing.

What is funny is that just like last time they predict a profit for the following year.... Not sure if it is just me but I call bullshit on that already.

What is more worrying for Sony in my view is their stock is almost worthless. In the past year alone it dropped by 50% and in just the past 10 trading sessions it has dropped 11%. When the markets open it will take a battering with this news.

I would expect to start hearing takeover news soonish because if they do another year like the last one then they will be on the brink. The failed TV business is dragging the whole company under.

That's sad to hear :S hopefully they can get out of this because they are a great company. I've got faith in kaz. If anyone can bring it back to its former glory it's him. Won't be easy tho.. A lot of restructuring has to take place.

Microsoft
1992: Employees: 15.300 revenue: 2.777 billion USD

2002: Employees: 50.000 revenue: 28.365 billion USD

2011: Employees: 90.000 revenue: 69.943 billion USD

--> When did they collapse?!

IBM
1999: Employees: ??? revenue: 64 billion USD

2002: Employees: 316.000 revenue 81 billion USD

2011: Employees: 426.000 revenue: 107 billion USD

--> When did they collapse?!

So you really want to compare a giant like Microsoft with a little rat like Sony ?

Compare MS with Apple or Google.

If Sony had more fans like Selnor they'd be running a profit of 6.4 Billion. Pounds!

The poster before him said that MS and IBM had fallen since the 80s/90s. DirtyP2002 was just showing that they hadn't fallen and had actually prospered.

WTF!

Well, no.

revenues:

  • 2000: 23b
  • 2001: 25b
  • 2002: 28b
  • 2003: 32b
  • 2004: 37b
  • 2005: 40b
  • 2006: 44b
  • 2007: 51b
  • 2008: 60b
  • 2009: 58b
  • 2010: 62b
  • 2011: 70b

Nowhere close to "always 20b or 30b"

*edit* profit for 2011: 23.15 billion USD. So not about 6 billion. Maybe 6 billion per Q.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

I agree, that's why I found it strange that the other poster would say they had fallen as a company from before.

Why does everyone believe SONY will die?
People are forgetting that a substantial reason for their loss is a $3.5 billion tax charge and a struggling TV division.

WORST CASE SENARIO, Sony becomes an all content company,

Sony pictures - profitable
Sony music - profitable (second biggest record label with MJ, britney, beyonce e.t.c)
Sony's medical division - profitable
Sony's financial division - profitable

The list goes on. Perhaps TV's will be removed, but Sony will never die.

Also lets not forget that in INDIA, Sony's brand strength is greater than either Apple or Samsung.
