The black hole was a lot of fun. I'm hoping for a blu-ray release some day, I've only seen the pan & scan 4:3 tv version.

coherence (sci fi)

a comet passes by and somehow reality collapses lol its a nice idea but also a bad one because it doesnt make sense.. if they go outside the house they go lost in a parallel universe but not while they are in the house or any other folks who live near. how does a comet affect only one house ? they wanted to make it more scientific but they failed thats why im mentioning this...despite all of this I liked it had some thrilling moments it got more and more complex as the movie progresses and at the very end one more mistake has been made but it was one that actually helped the movie finish in some style. quantum physics is fucked up.

You finally watched Baraka :) I'm glad you like it. Samsara next ;) Samsara has amazing scenes as well, yet I give the edge to Baraka having watched both numerous times.

I just started watching Blue planet: seas of life again. The 2001 BBC documentary that put nature documentaries back on the map. I watched it at a friends house on dvd back then, it looked amazing at the time. The blu-ray pretty much looks the same and standards have changed a lot. (as well as tv sizes)
"The main feature has been upconverted from standard definition source material." Tiny print. Back cover, lower right side. ... the resulting 1080p/AVC-encoded presentation exhibits less compression artifacting than its DVD counterpart ... There's still plenty of macroblocking, banding, edge halos, prevailing aliasing, crush, heavy noise, chunky grain, pulldown-esque anomalies and other unsightly eyesores on display, to say nothing of the image's unwavering softness, it's just all inherent to the source.
Sound fares a bit better, lossless 5.1, but I didn't remember the silly sound effects from back then.

I was forewarned and waited for the price to go down (it's actually less than the dvd now), yet it's still a bit of a shock. Otherwise it's great to watch again, the shots themselves are unbelievable. Filled the 1 glaring void in my blu-ray BBC nature doc collection.

Koyaanisqatsi got me into timelapse video and Phillip Glass. Baraka is superior, but it's definitely worth watching. Early 80's timelapse fun. Powaqatsi is ok, I have not seen Nagoyagatsi yet. I'm waiting for the blu-ray trilogy to come down in price. I had it on VHS, I'm sure I missed a lot.
There is also Chronos (1985), Ron Fricke worked on that between Koyaanisqatsi and Baraka. Chronos also looks very nice but is the shortest of the lot (45 minutes) and not as interesting as the others imo.

samsara

watched it with the wife..I didnt tell her what we were going to watch and for almost half an hour she was quiet and then she asked me "is anything going to happen in this movie" :D she thought it was an intro to a movie but she survived and now is sleeping like a baby it was good I enjoyed it. baraka is a little bit more interesting and I liked the music more. tomorrow koyaanisqatsi..

^ Already looks pretty great downsampled on my 1080p laptop. One to tag for when I get a 4K projector.
Haha my wife survives my movies as well. She doesn't want to watch on the projector, in the living room she can escape to her laptop :) At least we share the same passion for studio Ghibli.

I love the music from Koyaanisqatsi, one of my favorite soundtracks, but it's not for everyone.

I dont even know what kind of genre my wife likes but neither does she ..I realized that she mostly gets excited watching a movie when people are running from someone or something no matter what movie it is terminator or hunger games. maybe we should watch aliens or lola rennt
