It'll reach a Million. I don't care if the Wii is dying, it'll still get there.
Once the holiday comes people will start buying it up like crazy. Remember how DS SW still sells even though the 3DS's HW is selling like crazy? Yeah, the Wii U is also backwards compatible so it will do the same.

The only games I see selling in the top 50 for the DS are Pokemon games. Nabunga and Black and White.

.......

I'm not talking about this year I'm talking about last year. They sold far above 3DS games even after SM3DL and MK7 came out.

Mario Party 9 has been out for (less than) a month in America and Europe and has yet to be released in Japan. While I don't watch much TV, I got the impression that Nintendo has cut down on Wii commercials and strongly focuses on the 3DS right now. If this holds true in other countries, then Mario Party 9 needs more than three weeks to start selling, because it takes some time until word gets around.

At this point I see no convincing reason why Mario Party 9 shouldn't sell at least one million copies. There's still interest in Wii games like Just Dance 3 showed, the difference is that Ubisoft really pushed their game, so people immediately knew that the game was released.

...

As for the poll, you should have used a more appropriate term than the stupid "Casual" label.

"Is the 3DS not Nintendo handheld enough to be popular in America and Europe?"

The answer is undoubtedly: "Yes."

If you disagree, point me to a Nintendo handheld that succeeded on the back of 3D gameplay. It didn't happen, it doesn't happen and it will not happen.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

Biased reviews are a pleasure to read. Just my opinion, of course.

Namco Bandai has filed two trademarks, one titled All Star Battle, and another titled Project X Zone (Project Cross Zone). It sounds quite possible that either of these aforementioned trademarks could be related to the mystery game that Sega, Namco and Capcom are working on together. The full reveal for the mystery crossover game is expected sometime next week.

What do you mean by "not Nintendo handheld enough"? If you're trying to say that it isn't Nintendo-like enough then I get where you are coming from, the 3DS, even with the few great first-party releases, still hasn't had enough "Nintendo" pumped into it. This year looks like it'll really make it popular like the DS though, since we have Animal Crossing, Luigi's Mansion, Kid Icarus, and 2D Mario coming out.

The market controls the direction of gaming. I think that Nintendo acted like they are controlling the direction. But they don't and therefore they have to suffer. Price isn't an issue for the 3DS anymore, so the simple answer is that the market in America and Europe doesn't want the currently available games. Or at the very least not enough of these (most people tend to not buy before three games of interest are out).

If a Nintendo handheld doesn't sell well at an affordable price, then you know that something has to be seriously wrong; and based on historic precedence it's easy to point at too much 3D gameplay/not enough 2D gameplay as the cause for Nintendo's problems, because that's the common link between all of Nintendo's struggles, be it on a home console or handheld. Whether it's the Nintendo 64, the Gamecube, the Virtual Boy or the DS's initial year and a half, it's always the same.

For this reason, Kid Icarus and Luigi's Mansion only add to the problem. Nintendo is basically the last company who is capable of creating popular high quality 2D gameplay titles and that's what the market expects from a Nintendo system. If Nintendo doesn't obey (and with the 3DS they cleary did not), they won't be able to succeed on a massive scale.

In turn, this also means that Nintendo cannot be made irrelevant, because nobody else in the industry can make such games. The only company that can destroy Nintendo is Nintendo.

3D gameplay makes sense in certain games, but it shouldn't be in all games. The market wants REAL Mario games, so Nintendo better makes them. A lot of them. The turning point for the 3DS will be the release of Super Mario Bros.; if Nintendo makes it a great game and accompanies the title with more of its kind (not just more REAL Mario games, but Donkey Kong Country, Yoshi's Island and the like), then all will be well. Weekly 3DS sales will easily double and be sustained, it won't just be a minor boost.

And while Nintendo is at it, they should also restore the glory of the Zelda series. It's time to get back to the basics.

I agree wholeheartedly with the need of 2D games, that is indeed one of the things that Nintendo is strong at and it is one of the things that distinguishes them from the other developers/companies. The only thing is is what will they do to the games you mentioned above to make them the slightest different from their predecessors? They can't go too different or it won't be what we know and love but they have to go different enough to where there was a purpose of making a new one on a new console. What do you think they could do to 2D Mario, Donkey Kong Country, or Yoshi's Island to make them different? Other thanthe different items of course...

Another thing Nintendo needs to do is hit all the bases. If Nintendo just release 2D games then they would upset some people who like 3D games more. The other way around too. They need all different genres for all different people.

Do you think that people want to stop playing Mario Kart? I don't see a real problem here. There's no reason to assume that people don't want more of the same, especially when something sold millions of copies.

Yes, all bases need to be covered eventually. However, you start with pluralties first and then work your way towards minorities.

New Wii U Rumors, don't worry nothing too major!

- Nintendo wants to stick with the name Wii U, but there may be some sort of legal issue with that name
- Nintendo isn't too happy about the analyst commentary on the Wii U's power
- top-tier publishers are keeping quiet on the Wii U due to NDAs
- the Nov. 18th release date isn't 100% concrete right now
- the discussion of haptic feedback has been discussed at Nintendo, but may not be part of the final Wii U controller

@boldI have not checked as I usually do, but is Mario Tennis going to be popular in Japan based off previous games in this series? Or will this one be different since it looks so great?  Mario Party 9, after word of mouth like RolStoppable said, could do quite well for the Wii in Japan. Then they still have the Dragon Quest coming as well. Here is to hoping!Fire Emblem is the next big game coming in Japan for the 3DS, then there is Culdcept saga, Etrian Odyssey, Rune Factory, and Dragon Quest Monsters all coming out and surrounding the only popular Vita game this summer, which is Persona 4.Nintendo is being brutal this time around!!! Do we really think that they did not plan all of these simliar genres of games around what they knew would be a much wanted Vita game?
By the way this is the Nintendo thread.

Mario Tennis should be pretty big in Japan. The N64 game alone sold over a million units. Other iterations haven't been as popular, but I'm still expecting Mario Tennis Open to at least reach the 300,000 to 500,000 range in Japan alone.

I'm thinking FE will sell a quarter million in Japan alone. Dragon Quest Monsters could sell a million, but since its a remake I think, it could have some trouble reaching that number.

I made a bet with JoeTheBro on February 19, 2014. I say the 3DS will outsell the PS4 at least one month in 2014, he says the 3DS won't. Whoever is right gets to control the other person's sig for a month.

Check out Ohga Shrugs!
