Forums - Gaming Discussion - UAE (or others who know) Residents... I needz some info!

So, my I am probably moving from US to UAE for at least a few years. I intend on bringing my US/Region1/NTSC based game consoles and media players with me, but I have some questions.

1) Will my stuff work with a UAE TV set? (PAL or NTSC, etc) Follow-up, if PAL, will my NTSC based stuff even work at all?

2) Can I continue to purchase American based media (region 1) from Amazon and others and have it easily shipped to Abu Dhabi?

3) Have any of you used a service like "myus.com" that gives you a US address and forwards the mail?

I don't want to have to have a friend get stuff and mail it to me nor do I want to have to buy it all on a annual trip back and ship with me as that is kinda annoying. Movies aren't so bad as I can use proxy's to get video streamed content, but, games and such are a bit different. Anything additional you can tell me that is related to gaming and other media, please do so.

Thank!

EDIT: Some items I found answers to...

PS3 has a universal power supply. I can purchase a new plug for the UAE power plug and it will work perfectly.
Wii power supply built into plug, i.e. external to Wii. Also, just purchase UAE power plug and it will work perfectly.

Seems my video concern isn't a real issue. After some research, it appears that as long as the TV is a newer model (mine will be brand new) it will easily take the component and/or HDMI connection and work without issue.

Also, it appears that many US retailers like Amazon and Gamestop ship to UAE without much issue. Of course there is extra fees. Additionally myus.com could work around any other issue. But I still would like to know if anyone has used this service before?

I heard they have the highest building in the world. Hope that helps.

Your game system will work but will have no color, I remember taking my GCN to India and plugging it in on the tv there, it came out black and white lol.

I dont know about the others sorry....

How old was the TV you tried this on? Stuff I'm reading says that newer tvs have no issues running NTSC stuff.

2. Yes you can. Especially of you have American credit card.
3. I tried Aramex (Shop & Ship). Very nice service but it'll cost you. They charge $17 for the first pound then $9.5 for every extra pound.
There are a lot of companies that can give you american address and forward the mails. But I think Aramex is the best one. They will give you American, British and chinese addresses.

Where are you going to? In Abu Dhabi there is this mall hamdan centre, and on the third floor you can get games at pretty cheap price, because they are asian versions (HK) which are also in English. I only lived in Abu Dhabi so I don't know about Dubai,, but I assume there must be the same thing over there.

lol, I currently live in Tucson AZ and for the most part, the heat shouldn't be an issue. The temps here are pretty much the same overall. Only difference is we're exceedingly dry and UAE is humid. So that will make it more uncomfortable. But I will have AC in everything.

As for the shop you mentioned, does it sell NTSC games? I read a few forums where users said they found shops that regularly sold NTSC  / American games, but they didnt' specify what stores. I figure when I get there I'll make friends with other Americans and figure out some of that via word of mouth or simply checking out various malls.

Oh noes! Superchunck will be in the time zone where no one will be online on this site!! we europeans already have it bad but that timezone.. :S

Ah, yeah Arizona is pretty hot too.

A part from that, the shops I talked about do sale NSTC games, for Wii at least. I am not sure about Xbox 360, and for PS3 it doesn't make any difference. And it's actually a whole floor filled with shop so you can see which one is cheapest, and prices are always negotiable. Try to pay in Dirhams though :) that's all.
