That was a brilliant review, I wish I had the motivation to write one.

Score is not high enough so I will not read.
Good work, I read later to tell you how wrong or right you are.
You know what? One of the points where you give it a ten is where it falls through for me; lasting appeal. On my new savegame with 48 hours game time, I'm level 61, practically immortal, done the main quest, imperial faction quests (which were precisely the same as the stormcloak quests except the color of the men's uniforms), dark brotherhood quests, thieves guild and most of the companions. No monsters are challenging, there is no gear to be found that is worth anything, I have too much gold to spend and the game has virtually no value any longer.
As of yet I'm at 95 hours and I'm really running bare on quests. The only major plotline that's left is the main storyline. I've also cleared more than half the dungeons and maxed out most skills at level 61.
This game is short as hell...
Damn....some of you are pretty darn fast in the game >_>.
I only explored my game 100% when I reached the 210 hour mark or so. Then again, I rarely used Fast Travel, so that might be it.

That was kind of the recurring idea I tried to point to throughout the review. The various weapon types and skillsets are something that some people love to explore and experiment with, while others are looking for a more fundamental depth to gameplay (which Skyrim does not provide - it's simply clicking the same buttons with no real combos or special moves requiring insane finger coordination). As an addendum though, the controls are mostly responsive and intuitive. I don't recall having any problems with casting or archery. My only gripe would be that some of the animations feel like they take too long to get through (mainly with the close range melee weapons) and can't be cancelled or interrupted part way through. Attacking while in a sprint (for power attacks - something I've left out ) is also finicky and somewhat unresponsive. Navigating the world with your character is an absolute delight and feels nigh on identical to Oblivion (minus the ridiculous athletics skill from Oblivion that let you eventually leap 15 feet with one jump). I did mention the abysmal horse controls though so yay for me! |
Agree fully with your opinions on horse controls and general horse gameplay...what a massive missed opportunity.
Great review!
Bethesda really needs to improve the melee combat in the series...and do a better job about game breaking bugs next time.
Definitely a good review, though a bit too detailed for my liking. But great job other than that.

You should be careful with that. It's only fun until someone looses an eye.
