I think it won't be, PSP did well in Japan due to TEH MH, it doesn't have that exclusivity any longer, and Capcom already proved a game like RE:R would work on 3DS other than MH3G and the upcoming MH4. Sony does not have a "killer app" that people must buy or can only play on Vita, I'm a huge Uncharted fan and I'm not even budging for Golden Abyss, I like Gravity Rush a lot but that also isn't a killer app, to be quiet frank, nothing Sony can offer would have the same influence power of Mario to the masses.

Actually, there have been plenty of reports about how it flopped in Japan and how the 3DS has outsold it by between 6 and 10 to 1 in Japan.

Obviously the DS vs PSP articles. This article is virtually the same in spirit, and fails even worse considering that we already know the Vita is flopping about like a fish out of water; and has fewer guns for the future than the PSP had (losing Monster Hunter to 3DS, decline in the association with other brands like FF and GTA that the PSP depended on)

This thread shows us how erroneous some of our preconceptions can be, and how counter-intuitive business strategy in this market actually is. There is much more at play here than who has the best harware. Luckily we have precedent to rest on this time around.
The face-off is nearly identical as last gen's, with some points more positive for the 3DS this time around (capcom support, MH). If history serves us right the Vita is DOA... Things could change, but as far as logic goes one only needs to look at the past for answers.
