Forums - Nintendo Discussion - 3DS sales reaching crazy levels: UK (3DS sold out); Japan (3DS sells 216k in 1 week, MarioKart 7 sells 450k same week).

JAPAN SALES: http://www.siliconera.com/2011/12/06/mario-kart-7-boosts-over-450k-during-first-week-in-japan/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+siliconera%2FMkOc+%28Siliconera%29

"Mario Kart 7 Boosts Over 450k During First Week In Japan

Famitsu magazine publisher, Enterbrain, have an early report on one of last week’s major Japan releases: Mario Kart 7, released on December 1st. Enterbrain say that in its first week, Mario Kart 7 sold 451,932 copies in Japan.

It also gave  Nintendo 3DS system sales a large boost. The 3DS sold 216,350 units during the same week. We’ll have more detailed numbers from Media-Create as per usual on Wednesday (note that they will likely differ slightly from Enterbrain’s).

Next week, we’ll get to find out if Monster Hunter 3G’s release helped sustain 3DS sales, and in the weeks after that, the combination of the holidays and the PlayStation Vita’s release should make for some interesting sales columns."

"Retail reports 3DS sell-outs

UK shops are reporting a sharp increase in 3DS sales.

Sources on the High Street have told MCV that the Metallic Red edition is all but sold out, with other colours also in short supply.

It follows a surge in popularity for the machine, driven by two new Mario games and a price cut.

Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 are both now available – the latter debuted at No.8 in this week's Chart-Track Top 40. Both games have been supported by a significant marketing drive, with TV ads appearing around prime time TV shows.

"We have high expectations for the final few weeks before Christmas," said GAME Group's category manager for Nintendo Iain Johnson."

Guess the holidays are here for NIntendo.

Yeah the 3DS is really starting to pick up steam. I wonder if people are still going to be writing those 3DS is doomed articles anymore?

As per my other thread; I bought the Super Mario Land Bundle + MK7 last Sunday!

Pretty good to see the company doing better. Hopefully this helps them reduce the yearly projected loss.

Sounds good. It also seems like Tales of the Abyss 3DS had a fairly good opening as it's sold out in some places.

3DS no longer considered a failure then, will definitely pass 12.5M by years end.

Good to see the 3DS now getting the sales it's deserved from the beginning. Nice to see MK7 has had an appropriately successful first week too.

Well I think this was inevitable once the price was right and once the games were there. It is already down to around £130, over 40% of its initial initial price (stores started cutting even before launch) and £100 below Vita....

And yeah, people like Mario, Mario sells well. (this should also remind Nintendo to make a Mario game for Wii U launch...)

Mario Kart will be like DKC last year - won't decline below a huge level (100k-200k) until the holidays start to end in Japan. With Monster Hunter next week, and Mario Kart still selling quite well, and seasonality, the 3DS should roughly trace the DS path in late 2005 / late 2006 / late 2007 in Japan selling anywhere from 400,000 - 600,000 units in its best week or two of the year. Monster Hunter alone should be a 50-100k boost, and the 3DS would be up at least 50k next week anyway. Could easily be 350,000 - 400,000 for Monster Hunter week. Still doubtful about 3DS getting to 16m in the fiscal year though.
