Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why do you hate the Wii?

i love the Wii. One of my all time fav consoles!

Most people that hate the Wii are usually fat nerds that don't like moving more than their thumbs to play games. Or kids that think it's cool to hate on Nintendo.

Is it because it's a Nintendo console?
Nope, been a Nintendo fan almost as long as I've been a Sega fan.

It has no games?
Nope, I have more Wii games then PS3 games.

Because it's two Gamecubes taped together?
That may be true, but I don't care. I doubt Mario Galaxy would play any better on a Quad-Core beast.

The 3rd parties told you to hate it?
Meh, I really only play Nintendo 1st party games on Nintendo consoles. With the exception of a few stand out tiles of course.

No DVD player?
Nope, I have several DVD players. I never watch movies on any of my gaming machines. Unless I'm streaming and the Wii does that. But I stopped paying for Nexflix because they dicked around too much.

Because it's only played by grandmas and 10 year olds?
You know what you get when you average 6o year olds and 10 year olds. 35, that's not much older than I am right now and I still enjoy Zelda, Mario, and Metroid just fine. I love games on other systems too, mature as they come. It is possible to like Zelda and Dark Souls.

It made Nintendo a profit?
Companies make profit? Madness! Let's boycott the greedy bastards.

6)   Playing Wii Sports resort helped me get my current girl since I invited her over after she joked that I still played video games and that she hasn't in a very long time.

Lol you got a girl coming over to your house to play your Wii and now she's playing with your OTHER Wii. I'm a banned account but I just signed up again cuz I can't pass up this chance to comment on this rofl.

they never create a new IP.

Come on, that's BS and you know it.  Just counting off the top of my head Nintendo's new IPs (I'll just count those published by Nintendo and where Nintendo owns and has in effect 'created' the IP) this generation that have appeared on the Wii:

Wii...

Big Brain Academy

Disaster: DoC

Eco Shooter 530

Bonsai Barber

Xenoblade Chronicles (it is usually considered a new IP as the 'xeno' preffix was only added to honour Takahashi, before it was 'Monado')

The Last Story

Maboshi

Endless Ocean

Line Attack Heroes

Rhythm Heaven

If we extend it to the DS as well, you stated 'they' suggest you believe it happens to Nintendo as a whole, I can name as well:

Nintendogs

Brain/Face/English Training

Soma Bringer

Style Boutique/Wagamama Fashion

That walking device thingy, which name illudes me

Ouenden/EBA

Jam with the Band/Daigasso

Electroplankton

Cooking Guide

You are factually incorrect to state that 'they never create a new IP'.  That's not to say I am completely satisfied either with Nintendo's collection of New IPs in the 7th gen, but it is not a problem of quantity for me, but quality and effort behind each one.  I think Nintendo could actually make less New IPs, spending more time, money and resources to promote each one, building their profile.  What Nintendo needs is not more New IPs, but a single or a few New IPs that are the eqivilent of Uncharted; by that I don't mean a TPS, but a high profile New IP that is critically acclaimed, appeals to the so called 'hardcore' audience and has the capacity to sell millions of copies.  Nintendo has so called 'hardcore' New IPs  that are critically acclaimed (Xenoblade Chronicles, Soma Bringer, etc) and games that sell fuck loads (Wii..., Nintendogs, Brain Training, etc), but none fit into both.  Nintendo need to change their culture regarding New IPs, such as the level of marketing behing them, securing localisation, etc; not just creat more of them.

The wii is my least favorite Nintendo console and console period I have ever owned. Does that mean I hate it? Hell no.

I have stated my dislikes before, but since there is a lot of newblood here so I will say I do not like it primarily because it's graphics are poor and I am used to looking at HD games. The games I bought it for are mariokart, super mario bros and Zelda other than that the system does not offer much game wise I want.

I like the motion controls, but when the graphics are below the standard I am used to it makes me not inclined to buy many games and I have move to play games in motion with good graphics.

I left my wii at my dad's place for my step bros and they seriously have not touched it in a year as they too are graphics whores. I will get it back to play Skyward sword eventually, but I am not in any hurry because this holiday season has once again provided vast amounts of great HD games.

I don't, I really like the Wii and felt it was the first Nintendo home-console since the SNES that was worthy of being my main console.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Hating Wii would be to hate video games. No true gamer could hate Wii as it is home to Nintendo's first party titles as well as some pretty good third party titles. The software is enough to make the Wii easily the second best console on the market, I think 360 is better simply because of the third party support. But as far as game quality goes Nintendo first party software is still among the best in the world.

In fact I don't think their has been a bad system since Atari's last. I mean Sega, Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft have all released good systems. None really worthy of hate.

Did you forget about your old buddy the Virtual Boy?  I wouldn't really consider it a hand held considering it wasn't really that portable (hand held wise).  If you want to count hand helds then you of course have the Nokia N Gage.  I am sure there are a few other systems out there such as 3DO which was pretty much a failure besides looking at the Jaguar.  Atari didn't have a very good streak going there towards the end.  Considering they caused the video game crash and then totally failing when trying to make a come back.  Something that I believe would happen if Apple went for a dedicated video game system.

The problem I see with video game systems is that people want more and more features.  Basically, if it were up to Microsoft and Sony the video game system would be a PC.  At least there isn't the system requirements, or if you can install/play the game, etc that has plagued PC since the beginning.  The thing that made video game systems so good to me during my childhood (80s and 90s) was that I didn't have to worry about when buying a game if it would work.  You put the game in and you played.  Now, they want to install games for faster loading, etc...  I understand the need to have a video game system be able to do multiple things other than to play games.  However, what the hell more do you want to stuff in there?  Having the ability to play music, stream videos from Netflix or Hulu, internet (which I never use the Wii considering it is way easier on a desktop), download demos to the system or hand held, download games, etc..  seems like enough for me.  Anything else I can do on my PC.  What the hell do the so called gamers want next in their system?  A phone? How about a toliet?  or even better a blow up doll.....  Now, instead of just a video game system people want an entertainment hub.  Everything they want is what a PC is.  That is fine but eventually the focus on video games might become a little lost if you try to be the jack of all trades.  Look at Microsoft and Sony strategy for the controller.  Nintendo has changed their controller every generation.  Sony is pretty guilty of barely changing shit and when they did change the controller it looked like shit (boomerang).  They have to wait for Nintendo to show them what to try or add to their controller next (analog stick, rumble, Wiimote/nunchuck) Why change something if isn't broken you ask?  Well, why don't we all just drive Model T Fords.  The controller is the most important aspect of the video game system.  It is what you use to play the game.  Nintendo realizes this.  Microsoft and Sony just focus on one uping each other with some other feature letting their controllers become relics of the past.

I do not like the fact that some games that should be coming out for the Wii are not. I would buy them if available . But I understand the economics behind the decision.

I also think that a lot of "Wii hate" is misdirected because the console is misunderstood. If you think you are going to have the same experience on the Wii than you do on the PS3 or Xbox 360, then you are mistaken. But if you enjoy different and unique things -- then it can be a lot of fun.

Of the 300+ Wii games that I own, I would say that less than half a dozen are really bad -- and another half dozen that I dumped. So there is fun to be had if you like different things. Though I will not disagree that some games are complete tripe and should be avoided -- except for comedic reasons.
