Forums - Gaming Discussion - Games that you used to love - do they still hold up today?

Everyone had their favourite games growing up, but often we look back on them and realise that they weren't games that you'd even consider playing today. Sometimes it would be nice to return to the childhood state of innocence, and to find entertainment in even the most simple of games, but alas - we can't do this.

Are there any games that you used to love that haven't aged very well?

What about games that remain strong after all these years?

I used to love the Crash Bandicoot games and still do and they still hold up very well to this day. Same with heroes of might and magic III.

Rome Total War, I loved that game and still do, best RTS for me.

I really enjoyed Dungeon Keeper too - but that game hasn't aged well at all, the gameplay is still pretty lol, but the graphics are just appalling.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

Chrono Trigger still holds up as one of the best RPGs even today.

I don't think games like FFVII have held up as well, though.

i loved soul calibur 1 for dreamcast but i really don't care anymore fot that game series since a few years.

Shining Force 2 remains the best game of all time- so yes.

Time for hype

Final Fantasy X used to be my favorite game. It gets worse and worse every time I play it.

Love and tolerate.

Most games I loved when I started gaming on the Mega Drive don't really hold up at all. Sonic is still a lot of fun though but that could be because the new Sonic games are so bad

I must say that the Donkey Kong Country games still hold up as some of the best platformers, even to this day.

That's the worst thing about those old school re-release games for the PSN, XBL, and VC. Time and time again, I'm reminded that my youth isn't as awesome as I remember. You think, "Everything was better, then.", but that's not the case. Everything from Sonic 1 to Final Fight, to Bonk's Adventure use dated play mechanics and repetition and have a hard time holding my interest.

Sometimes, you just can't go back. You have to keep moving forward.
