i think having firearms is more dangerous than no having then, if nobody have firearms, you don't have to protect yourself against them, of couse here there are people who have arms but at least, i know that most of people don't have guns, so i feel secure

ROFL. Oh wow... ismael, that's really really a great thought, but it's roughly the same as saying if we didn't have criminals, then we wouldn't need police. It just ISN'T going to happen. SOMEBODY WILL have guns. So you DO have to protect yourself against them.

I would feel most secure knowing that EVERY one of my fellow citizens had a gun, because then there would never be a point at which I was the only person capable of defending me from that occasional criminal who WILL have the gun whether he's supposed to have it or not.

but i wonder, if a lot of people have guns, there are posibles "criminals" in each person that have them, has it somenthing to do with USA being one of the countries where there are more crimes.

Nobody is a killer until they kill someone, this it why i said "possible criminals".

Guns don't kill people. put a gun on a table, load it even. Leave it there and don't let anyone touch it. It doesn't kill anyone.

PEOPLE kill people, and people can use anything they can think of to do it. they can use paint spray and a lighter, knives, a metal bat a wooden bat a sharpened stick, their bare hands and teeth. So maybe this will enable people who want to be criminals an easier way to do it? Fine, let's play out that scenario.

You have twice the number of people who have guns and are capable of becoming criminals. instead of 1% of the population being criminals, you have 2% But if everyone has guns, you now have 98% of the world that has guns to DEFEND themselves from those criminals. now tell me again who has better odds?

And some people are douches.  Respect others' opinions, and they'll respect yours.  He has a point.  Criminals are law-breakers by definition, and if guns were made completely illegal, they'd still have guns and they'd still shoot people.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

curious, because in the progamme i watched, a lot of americans that were inteviewed said the same thing.

BTW when i said that USA is one of the countries where there are more crimes, i meant using firearms, i think it has something to do with that.

Guns are great! Without them how in the hell do you expect us to kill cyotes, stray dogs, lame horses AND they're a wonderful excuse to wander off into the woods for a couple of days chasing deer and get drunk.

Just to note, I don't approve of drinking while carrying. If politicians weren't so busy lobbying against guns completely, we might be able to implement rules about using them responsibly.
Drinking while carrying is roughly the same as drinking while driving.

Where I grew up, the public schools would get the first day of doe season off. Many kids hunted with their parents.

Man, there are some extremely standard stereotype Americans here it seems... :s

And you, my friend, are a stereotypical Netherlander. ;)

About guns: My family owns 4 of them. A Colt .45 revolver, an M4 assault rifle, random 12-guage shotgun, and a Springfield rifle. None of these have been used in over 20 years.

And you, my friend, are a stereotypical Brit. ;) What happened to the savage barbarians that used to live on that tiny little island? I liked them more. ^_^

His profile says the Netherlands, which makes more sense.

As someone said, there are very different cultures acros the countries... Here in Belgium, it's pretty hard to have a gun... recently, people had to bring them back du to a new law, even when it was only some old family souvenir (unless they had some kind of paper I guess, but no one had it). That law has changed since then but all those old guns have alredy been destroyed ^_^ Anyway, it is forbidden to use it even to protect yourself against some burglar... Even cops cannot keep their guns at the end of the day (even if they are still supposed to act if they see some criminal action... this is so stupid !). Well, we are pretty good in making stupid laws I guess

However, I've never owned a gun, I don't know anyone who has one and I don't intend to have one in the future...

Nevertheless, I love shooters and violent games

xbebop: Is that M4 an actual assault rifle with select fire capability? ..and its over 20-years old?

Firearm ownership is very common where I am from (Arizona). We have some of the better (less restrictive) firearm laws in the country. I own more than I could carry myself.

I will not turn this into a pro-anti battle, Ill just say I am glad I have the right to bear arms.
