Forums - Sales Discussion - EMEAA Up! 10th September

I think Dead island just stole Resistance3's thunder, im sure it will have pretty descent legs and at least equal the sales of 2, but i say good for dead island its nice to see a new IP doing well.

I also wonder if R3 sales are low because of its onilne pass, i know that why i and a couple of others cancelled our preorders, weve decided to buy it new when its cheaper around half price, rather than buy any product that loses most of its value as soon as you enter the code that comes with it.

Regarding Resistance 3, I think this is the price Insomniac had to pay for turning their backs on Sony. This is the first game they released after their announcement to go multiplatform, so they don't rank as high among the PlayStation fanbase as they used to. Their next Ratchet & Clank game is most likely also poised to underperform in the marketplace.

Meanwhile, all eyes are on Naughty Dog.

This coupled with the damage R2 did to the franchise perception wise says it all for R3.  Reviews are okay and general perception I can pick up is most fans see it as a return to form, so I think word of mouth will drive some legs, but when you mess up with a game (or film or book) then you're next release always takes a hit.  combine that with a change of perception of the developer as Rol noted and the sales are far from a surprise.

Looks like Wii tops 88M when rounded up, but next week for sure over 88M. Only 2M to go.

88 millions... Amazing numbers for a d00med console, and doomed ever since launch...

 Good 3ds numbers...

YOY

PS3 UP 7% (down yoy next week and possibly for the rest of year- price cut too early?)
360 DOWN 33% (ahem... price cut?... like... now!)
Wii DOWN 27% (horrific collapse)

DS+3DS UP 14% (not bad)
PSP DOWN 45% (bye bye)

PS2 DOWN 63% (who cares?)

PS2

Not that i dont believe you, more i dont know how to use the tools on this website, but can you show the number for why PS3 wil be down YoY next week, as i would of thought sales after a price cut this year would be at least a bit better than sales with no price cut or new model last year, even with general decline, i remember last year have a distinct lack of software with the exception of GT5 which arrive late, as things like LBP2 got pushed into 2011.

I think PS3 price cut timing was fine.  It seems timed to both support the rash of releases from now through to the holidays as well as to allow the price to establish itself in the market.  I expect the spike will tail off but then pick up again into the holidays with periodic spikes such as in Japan where the price cut and the right game release combine well.

I think MS issue with 360 is how skewed the demand remains globally, which makes pricing trickier.  In Japan the console for example would need huge cuts to generate any change, EMEAA could do with a decent cut while US needs a cut the least.  Sony has the same issue but to a lesser extent I think.

With MS continuing to talk bullish about total sales they must have some pricing activity (whether full formal RRP change or heavily discounted bundles and deals) in the pipeline.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Now that MS cut price of Xbox in Aus, i think the rest of the world will just be getting great bundles and maybe discount on kinect bundles, but i dont see a price drop world wide now this year, would be strange to stagger price drop across countries as it would just drive down sales as people would be hoping there country would be next.

I think it will squeeze another 5M for the rest of the year and to the other 7M for the rest of it's life.
