Standards change maybe? What was a "Best Game Ever" in 2008 probably isnt in 2011.

Just a Thought ( not that im saying MGS4 didnt deserve it)

No matter hw much your standards change, if they call it best game ever once, it can't be out of the top 100 in a matter of 3 years.

This only shows that lists like that are meaningless.

Top 100 games, not top 100 movies.

How did heavy rain make it then?

Because it's interactive pretty much throughout and thus qualifies as a game.

They only put 1 game per franchise....Peace Walker is suppose to be the best MGS so there's your answer

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Or it's just a forgetable game when all is said in done.

The only thing on which you and IGN disagree is whether or not Peace Walker is better than MGS4.

Clearly, they think it is.

That's totally acceptable; I've never even played Peace Walker and it may very well be better than MGS4 for all I know.

What I find inexcusable is that they purposely only included one game per series, and while I realize that this was mentioned as part of the criteria for their list, the purpose is to list the best games of the generation.  This principle omits several great games in favor of variety, which to me fails at being a true top 100.

For example, Bioshock is my favorite game this gen.  Bioshock 2, while pretty good, is not even close to the original.  There's a massive slew of games I'd recommend that someone check out before Bioshock 2, despite that the original would be my top game; hence why my personal top 100 probably wouldn't even include the sequel.  In other words, it speaks volumes that I would include one and not the other, just as it speaks volumes that I would include both Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2; they are both deserving of being on the list.

The fact that it's a list by a major site like IGN and that they would limit it in this way just doesn't sit well with me personally.

It boils down to personal preference. I personally can't stand those stealth type shooters, especially those riddled with cutscenes.

IT DOESN'T DESERVE IT.It's dull and the gameplay is less than the cutscenes.

Dull? MGS 4 was amazing in my opinion and most others opinions, why don't you like it?

I am not the MGS 4 kind of fan.I didn't like the art styles, the long cutscenes and I was gonna buy the MGS Collection to give the games a shot but I am not gonna cause I realised that just not my type of games.I also don't enjoy Heavy Rain cause it's too much movie like.I want games, not movies... LA NOIRE got the best from Heavy Rain and mixed with the Rockstar open-world formula and it's a hell of a game.

Well I'm with you on Heavy rain lol I can definitely agree with you there =D

Personally i think MGS4 is overrated and yes i used to be a MGS fan back in the day. 3 and 4 imo where disappointments though and even i would probably put it in top 100 of this gen (seriously 100 games, there are maybe 50, i would even think where worth mentioning). Also they gave it a freaking 10 ffs, there aren't even 100 games created that deserves a 10.

Edit. Its 1 game per franchise guys. And peacewalker is on there and yes imo peacewalker is a better game than MGS4 and im sure i am not the only one.

MGS4 is the best game ever created, period.

I gave up on IGN as soon as they rated GT5 an 8.5. There review of the game was complete BS! Then they gave Killzone 3 (my favouitre fps) an 8.5 as well. And they gave Infamous 2 a 9/10... They really screwed it up for me earlier so I'm not surprised

IMO, 8.5 was too high for both those Pieces of garbage Okay games. Infamous 2 on the other hand actually deserves it's score. Besides who relys on one gaming website when you have metacritic.
