Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Conduit 2, WTH.....Sega!?

I played the first Conduit game, and I enjoyed it. The online was a blast until the hackers destroyed the experience. Was it the best game ever made? Of course not. I was looking forward to Conduit 2 because HVS said they corrected many of the issues/complaints of the first one. I live in a city of about 100,000 people, and we have 1 major electronics store called Future Shop. I have been there 3 times in the last 2 weeks and they do not have a single copy of Conduit 2. Other people have told me that some Future Shop stores have 1-2 copies hidden in the back of the stacks. I was really looking forward to this game, but the fact that I would have to drive to another city or special order it has really deflated my enthusiasm. I am at the point where I might wait to see if the price drops in the next few weeks.

In the absence of evidence to the contrary, always assume you have the upper hand.

It's the same game, but the gameplay is very different.

A mediocre game is mediocre regardless of the controls you're using.

(ok on reflection I seem to have written a lot here, it's possible I repeat myself a bit)

Controls to me are a big part of many games, particularly fast paced games like FPS or racers, along with level design they are the main part of the whole "gamplay>graphics"

For example, Sim City Creator on the Wii would have been a really good installment into the Sim City series if they hadn't ruined it with the most random controls... wheras once I perfected my custom control scheme I enjoyed The Conduit (enough to have spent over 150 hours on it, with over 60 hours on the 1 player portion)

The story was dull yes, but I generally ignore game stories even when they are good
The level design wasn't anything special admitedly, I probably would descibe it "adequate" which is 1 step up from mediocre.
The graphics were technically very good, but aesthetically mediocre.
The controls... well, The Conduit is the only Wii FPS I can circle strafe in without having to use the lock-on feature, and to me that's a big part of the beauty of the game and certainly helped pull it up above and overall "mediocre" into the "good" category

Overall Goldeneye I think I prefer over The Conduit mostly because of the subject matter (bond) and the online isn't broken (I managed to spend 90 hours online in The Conduit, I think probably 10-15 of those were waiting for a ridiculous time to connect together or quitting because it had bugged and wouldn't let me do anything but spin on the spot, luckily most of the rest of the decent online time was spent relatively early on before it was taken over by hacking cheaters)

The level of control I can have over an in game character, or often vehicle as I am a racing game fan, is a big part of gaming. Conduit 2 will have been designed around the Wii remote and basing a review of the whole game on an alternate control scheme sounds silly to me (I didn't watch the review btw, just butting in with my view on controls)
If Conduit 2 is simply the first game but with new prettier levels, fixed online and some tasty new weapons I will be happy... though I knew it was going to fall flat on it's face sales wise so i'll be picking it up when I see it below half price (assuming the online portion seems to be holding up)

Basically, in an oversaturated genre where there are a LOT of quality games available, you really can't compete with a mediocre, or even "good" title, you just have to be exceptional, which conduit 2 was not.

I totally agree that the sales cannot be great because it has a lot of competition and almost not any advertisement, but WTF happened with the scores??? I was expecting a little better scores something around 7.2 as an average.

I reviewed the first game.   Decent game.   While I'm not the reviewer for the sequel, I do own it.   Much better game.  Except for the voice acting.  They never should have replaced Mark Sheppard with Jon St John.  Overlooking that glaring issue, it's as I said; a much better game.

Well I normally check both IGN and Gametrailers (for cross referencing) for my reviews which gave the game 7.4 and 7.9 respectively. If you are talking about Metacritic, I wouldn't put my money on MT scores which tend to be very haphazard. So yea, I would say Conduit 2 is probably a 7.5 average-ish game, which sounds about right.

Sega never advertises their games. Look at Vanquish, Valkyria Chronicles, Viking: Battle for Asgard, Stormrise, Madworld, Alpha Protocol and Resonance of Fate. All those games are actually good and belong to genres that aren't overly saturated. Conduit 2 never stood a chance.

If it doesn't have Sonic in it, then it's not going to be marketed very well. The only non Sonic game that was actually marketed decently was Bayonetta and that was one of the best games of last year.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

"I'm playing the game with Classic Controller Pro"...

Well, he could have said that in the beginning and I'd save my time watching his review. Who plays an FPS on Wii using anything but the Wiimote? I would tell you who but I don't wanna get banned for language.

Okay - an idiot, that's who.

I do. I can't play with the Wii-mote for games not called Metroid Prime. But everyone has their preferences.

the game seemed kinda fun to me actually.  too bad it is doa

Most anticipated games of 2011:

Uncharted 3,Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Rocksmith

Modern Warfare 3, Super Mario 3D

Don't know if this has already been posted...but you want a bad review of Conduit 2? Look no further guys:

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Third party game thats not made for Wii core audience and it comes out in 2011? I don't think it matters what part of the year it was released, it has recipe for disaster written all over it.
