That write-up makes me want to quit my current playthrough of Blue Dragon and fire up Star Ocean TLH.  It's soooooooooooo tempting!

I would also have to say that Chun-Li doesn't really count. She has dialogue in endings, but that's still not what I would call extensive characterization. She's an ICON, but that's not a character. Gaming seems to have trouble differentiating between those two (though someone CAN be both)

You are using words in a way that suggests meaning that they don't have. Chun-Li is a character in that she is representative of the idea of a person (that is, Chun-Li); whether she is a good character is up for easy debate, but that she is a character is an unqualified fact.

Not a perfect list, but I'm happy to see Celes, Lenneth and Samus in there.

The fact that the Best female character lists are made up almost entirely of masculine characters, and slams female characters for being feminine, says ALL kinds of weird things about the staff of RPGFan.

Very happy Jade was in the list of non-rpg characters. She's probably the best female character in any game I've played.

Glad princess Peach was in the hall of shame.

Female Commander Shepard is a weird one considerring the look and personality is decided by the player.

I would add Morrigan (DA: Origins), Isabella (DA2), Aeris (FFVII), Jack (Mass Effect 2), Aribeth (Neverwinter Nights), Fall From Grace (Planescape Torment) and Triss Merigold (Witcher) to the list of best.

Vanille (FFXIII) and Penelo (FFXII) need to be in the list of shame.
