Forums - Sony Discussion - Is Lair for the PS3, that bad of a game?

What some people seem to be unable to understand is that Lair and the PS3 itself are two separate things. An attack on Lair is not an attack on the PS3, it is an attack on a single game, and a bad game at that. Get over it.

Hates Nomura.

I enjoyed Lair a lot more than Assassin's Creed...

Lair only needed some time to get used to and then it was ok, Assassin's Creed is boring and repetitive.

Meh, Lair loses props when you have to mash the fireball button. Not much different than, but it's much cooler to mash lasers on Star Wars ships than fireballs on a dragon.

My opinion of course.

Wow, just what every PS3 owner wants to hear from a guy with an damn 360 logo talking crap about Lair... It is very import for 360 owners to make up BS about Lair's framerate in 1080p because it is one of the fundamental 360 damage control talking points about the PS3 vs 360: * 1080p is just Sony forcing developers to support to hype the PS3 * 1080p just means weaker graphics or worse framerate on the PS3 - 360 games could support it but developers are wise not to try To quote someone from back around the time when Lair was release "1080p PS3 games make 360 owners e-peepee's shrink'...

Except I have a PS3 as well, which might make my e-peepee bigger if Lair ran at a decent framerate in 1080p. I also have a 1080p TV and would rather have a nice framerate at 720p instead of a poor one at 1080p.

Also look at the poster MikeB a couple post above mine. Maybe then you'll understand my avatar.

I own the game and I can say that if you are in doubt as to buying this game - dont listen to ign, 1up, gamespot readers and other gametrailers watchers. The game is not as bad as they try to show it. if you like a gragon riding games it is the best available. Dont hasitate - go get it

Rouge Squadron - You have big, 4 legged walking machines that you take down by attaching a cable to its legs. Then you fly around until the cable is wrapped on the walker and it falls.

Lair - You have giant four-legged elephants that you take down by attacking a harpoon to its legs. Then you fly around until the cable from the harpoon wraps around its legs and causes the elephant to fall.

Like I said there may be similarities, but I don't think the games are much alike.

In the Lord of the Rings I think they brought down a huge elephant similar as in Star Wars, but IMO they are very different types of movies other than both movies being pure fiction.

1080p is really nonsense and really shouldn't be tooted, like how Sony is doing with the PS3..

I notice the difference, of course the step upwards from 720p to 1080p output isn't as great as looking at movies in NTSC versus 720p. Lair is 1080p, but not rendering in FullHD, you can have a 1080p game rendering just 10% more pixels than a 720p game.

I don't think Sony is advertising 1080p much at this point, of course they should mention specs like 1080p, 7.1 audio, deep color, etc support. Just walk into any consumer electronics store and you will see the HDTV specs listed, IMO not listing such core fundamental specs like output resolution could be misleading towards consumers.

Like I said you should actually play RS before you try and make that judgement call, watching youtube video really isnt the same thing.

Whats funnier still is that you have two different people telling you this, and several reviews of the game noted this similarity. Yet, for some reason, you just have to claim that its different.

Sure like I said there are striking similarities, I think direct comparisons were also due to Factor 5 having made two Rogue Squadron games before this, but:

Rogue Squadron:

Lair:

Just look at both games, Lair is no Rogue Squadron 4 nomatter what reviewers may claim. Really just compare the above two videos.

Again why is being similar to RS a bad thing? RS was one of my favorite games on the 64, and RS2 is universally considered to be one of the better launch titles for any platform. The series did lose a lot of steam with RS3 though, and Lair can easily be seen as an extension and development of RS3.

The fact of the matter is I don't have to look at the videos because I've actually played both games. Have you?
