Forums - Sales Discussion - Will Japan EARTHQUAKE effect 3DS launch?

From Nintendo3DS blog,

Everyone’s aware that Japan has been hit by a huge earthquake (with many large aftershocks). Nintendo released the following statement in regards to the safety of their employees and the damage (or lack thereof) to their headquarters in Kyoto:

We appreciate the concern shown in the aftermath of the recent disaster in Japan. We can confirm that at this time it appears that no one from Nintendo in Japan was injured and there was no apparent structural damage to our company headquarters in Kyoto. Business operations, including future product shipments, have not been affected. Our thoughts and best wishes are with everyone who has friends and family members who may have been affected by the earthquake or tsunami.

And while this is hardly the time to be worrying about something so irrelevant in contrast as video games, Seattle Times specifically points out that “the catastrophe won’t affect business operations, apparently including shipments of the upcoming 3DS, which goes on sale March 27 in the U.S.”

And the winner for most callous thread of 2011 goes to...

“The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt.” - Bertrand Russell

"When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace."

I was wondering about this too and found this thread via a google search for "japan earthquake 3DS delay".

I found the following info at another forum at which people actually responded with useful info rather than knee-jerk derision: "Nintendo remains injury-free after earthquake in Japan, business will continue as usual" http://nintendo3dsblog.com/nintendo-remains-injury-free-after-earthquake-in-japan-business-will-continue-as-usual

Edit: Oops, I see that this was already shared above. Anyway, I'll be supporting the people of Japan in the wake of this tragedy by stimulating their remaining economy via gaming purchases.

I know that is true, but seece you can't expect people to relate. I remember Haiti, people were like why are we aiding them, we should worry about our own shit. I think people just generally look forward to things they like more, and plus I think nintendogamer has no idea, how large this earthquake is.

people are dying.. we are people... how is this hard to relate. Yes I know starvation etc also kills but this is such a wide scale in such a short period of time. It is horrific.

I can understand, but I am just saying, this shouldn't be surprising that people are being like this.

Personally i thought japan held up well through the 5th BIGGEST EARTHQUAKE EVER RECORDED IN HISTORY! I mean if it wasnt for the tsunamis I don’t think the casuality count wouldn’t even pass a 100 or even 50.

Luckily the epicenter was in the ocean, 8.9 would have destroyed any city to  dust.

I know but the epicenter was pretty darn close. I even think piece of it was inland. And if u look at the footage all the houses close to the epicenter at senbai was relativily unharm till the tsunami sweep in. That, plus the quake's duration was more than 5 mins. FIVE MINUTES!! 8.9 for five minutes is incomprehensible to me.

It wasnt far but it wasnt that close either. 7 at most in Senpai. 8.9 would completely destroy anything. Not to say that 7 isnt strong though. In the end, your right, most of the damage was caused by the tsunami, thats because the city werent hit by an 8.9. Maybe you know that already but Richter scale is exponential, the difference between a 6.5 and 8.9 is enormous.
