Slimebeast are you complaining about modern storytelling modes being used to write strong female characters?

I just want to be clear, here.

Not sure I understand your question but I think yes.

I think you can portray strong females in other ways, less anachronistic ways, less obvious ways, less clichéd ways. If you can't, then just do the old school traditional "weak" or manipulative woman, which feels more natural and realistic.

The progressive feminist super woman has really become a huge cliché in modern media.

That says more about your expectations than it does about what's realistic.

I agree that some iterations of the strong woman archetype - the femme fatale and the ballbuster in particular - are tired, but defaulting to weak women is never a good thing

Yeah. I don't want just weak women. But I think you got what I tried to say.

Anyway, I hope you play Originas already and then DA2 and comment on them soon.

Well I've got a TV that could serve as a computer monitor now. Once I finish paying off my student loan in the next few weeks...

I may build a PC around the time Witcher 2 comes out

Well the story so far has me hooked. I'm not sure how well it'll work with the time transitions though. It all feels a little too linear (at least the bits in the demo). Be nice to find out who else is in the cast. Bioware seem to over-rely on the same character troupes (e.g. Carth/Kaiden/Jacob/Alistair) although there have been some interesting exceptions.

The combat is much faster and fluid and feels like it could work nicely but not being able to go to the top-down view was a bit annoying for some spell and ability placements. I'm still not sure why they don't let you do that on PC; the ceilings aren't that good!

I miss not being able to play as other races and I miss the origin story, but the main character talking is a nice addition. I also hate that they've taken the path of all responses = good, neutral or bad. Part of the fun of Origins (and The Witcher) was that all responses were gray. Not good, not bad, just choices and outcomes with both positives and negatives.

Basically, it's like Dragon Age but at the sametime, not Dragon Age. It's just different. Not sure if it's better or worse, just different.

Just played this on 360.

Still a quite ugly looking game, and I really don't want to play as a human character.

Combat seems ok, leveling system still shallow. They should have used DND 4.0. :/

I think it's an interesting game, DA:O was all right, the sequel should be just as good.

First off, here’s an in-depth video of the game – 30 mins (Xbox version), and I’m not sure if this is the gold edition or not.

Okay, the demo…it was really quite good.  Of course, it was choppy and somewhat rough in certain areas, but it’s a demo.  I must say…Bioware has REALLY put the Unreal engine to good use this generation, and while Dragon Age 2 isn’t as “pretty” as Mass Effect 2, it is certainly a whole lot prettier than Dragon Age.  I’m still annoyed by the lack of ability to jump in the Unreal Engine, so hopefully, that is corrected in the next engine.

The controls of the pretty good, but I really would like to see target lock available.  I played as the Warrior and the Mage, and while it wasn’t much of an issue with the warrior, it was annoying for the mage, specifically the second battle against the ogre.  Overall, the weak damage of the mage was a bit annoying, but they are always weak at the start of the game, and OP by the end.  The dialogue wheel looks much better, and it doesn’t seem to be as much guessing.

The tough choices to make, even before the game action starts is a bit surprising (no spoilers – but picking your class has an immediate impact on the story).  I’m going to be all about romancing Isabella in my first play through and the Viking chick in the second one (I’m a consoling type).  Overall, this looks better than Dragon Age so far, which I thought would be very hard to do, but I hope this  game a “really” bigger than the last, and not just using some number fudging.

As for the negatives…

The cut scenes were much better than DA:O, but they were choppy, and maybe it was just the demo.  In using abilities, there was a bit of choppiness as well, and maybe that was the result of it being a demo as well.  My one knock on all of Bioware’s games is the linear and lack of ability to free roam from a geographical standpoint, and this seems to be the case with the game as well, which is probably why I think Skyrim is going to be the top RPG this year.

Lets just say it meet my expectations, in other words it sucked. Sorry to any who like the game, but it had the same faults I hated about the first game.

1st- it is a boring button mashing paradise, I even stopped fighing at one point and my crew beat the enemies on their own.

2nd- Thegraphics are still abysmal for a game on the HD bad boys. This would not matter to me though if the gameplay was actually fun.

Just finished the demo on PC, and I thought it was okay. Not amazing nor average, I'll probably be getting on PC since I feel that controlling with the mouse will be much better than a PS3 controller.

I loved Dragon Age: Origins, and the demo for DA 2 did not do it justice. I liked how every single small encounter now seems like a mile of dialogue. Thats a plus in my book, but I didn't like the new gameplay additions. I rather enjoyed Origins walking at a half-n-inch a second since it presented the mood. And I would've hoped that the textures were improved, I guess not. But what was improved was the scale, definitely alot larger than the first, and I can't wait to scour the world inch at a time memorizing the terrain :3.

I give it an okay. Which is slightly better than average but still not anywhere near super-good. Can't wait for this game to ship out.

Story is quite nice - typical Bioware B category movie class.

But I hate the "improved" battle system and new camera for PC version.

Graphics are on the barely passable side.

I'll test PS3 demo later to see if combat on gamepad feels better.

comparing it to DA:O i like this one better i found the combat in the first one boring to the point were i couldnt finish it so i like the new combat system the graphics are MUCH better and it runs WAY WAY smoother i like having a main character (i hate making my own) but after 2 minutes of playing i think its just as linear as FFXIII (but it is just a demo)
