I think the PS3 will have a lot better sales in '08 than this year, probably around 21-22 million by years end, maybe more if price goes down again on new chipsets. The post-holiday slowdown will be lesser than many expect, I think.
I'll personally contribute by buying one myself finally...

Given that it will probably have the lowest holiday sales it is only natural it will have the smallest drop post holiday.

Given the million and one price drops its not so incredible to see PS3 matching 360 sales.  360 is non-existent in Japan and Europe has always been Sony land.  I don't think the sales matching has much to do with the quality of the games on PS3.  It's much more to do with the fact that 360 doesn't sell at all in one region and there are many people buying PS3 because it is the new Sony and has now come within their budget.

Although the intentions may (or may not) have been flamebait, i thought the essence of it was a question that had potential for (and sort of recieved) good discussion, i'd say thats why it hasn't been locked yet

 I'm not trolling, its that PS3 fans keep saying that PS3 will start selling, Sony dominance will start, blah, blah blah, and yet they forget that PS1 and PS2 dominance wasn't built on games like GTA, or MGS or even FF, those are just the games that get hyped as being the deciders, Sony built its domionance on having the largest most divers libraries, with the most exclusives, PS3 doesn't have that
