Well, if 10/20 of those wii titles are shovelware.....

With titles like

Need for speed - second only to gran turismo as far as great racing franchises go

madden- is a sport simulator I don't get why you mentioned it.....

spider man,- I've never owned one but back in the ps2 days the games were awesome

the lord of the rings- (not) ,

guitar hero- the eairly gutair hero's were actuall good you know

crash bandicoot- kill yourself -__- ......... NOW

Good thing shovelware is a matter of opinion too

Iok so you obviously never owned a ps2, or your forgetting these games and what they meant to the industry DURING THAT TIME,

and or,unless you consider almost every mario game on wii and every pokemon game of GB/DS, shovelware aswell by your implied critera, because I don't.

edit going over the mairo titles I'm inclined to take that back :/

Yeah

The market would have shrunk severely, plus PS3 and 360 would not have price cut as much as they have, so prices would be higher and sales much lower

@Kasz216 thats all well and good and that actually makes sense. It doesnt matter what Sony intentions for it was intially, Im just pointing out that this whole "Move was in development before Wii is a lie" argument is just crap spun by overzeolous Ninty fans who refuse to do read or research anything. Im more inclined to believe the word of a publisher whose been in the buisness for years than some forum dweller

To be fair, we can't know exactly how many PS360 sales were aped by Wii, though i agree the industry would definitely be in a bad place if we added about 10 million each to PS3 and 360 but knocked 60 million off Wii (and the generation isn't over yet, so knocking 60 million off now would be generous if we were talking GC level sales as Wii failure)

Well, there is no reason to take anyones word either way... there are direct videos about move out there.

The real question in general though is... "what qualifies development of the move."

Without the Wii, the move wouldn't of nearly been everything it was.

There is certaintly much room to make the arguement that what the Move is, wasn't what Sony was developing, as they had to take new mechanics from the Wii and in general there Idea of the product was TOTALLY differnet.

It's like If I was working on a medicine that cures nauesia, and a rival drug maker makes a medicine of the same matieral that works on headaches.

Was I working with the matierals?  Yes.  Was I working on headache medication before that medicine hit the market?  Possibly, but I sure as hell didn't know it.

@kasz216  hey man i get it, and i wasnt taking anyones word for it. I wasnt even talking about that video that everyone posts. I didnt believe it until I read an article in Game Informer that stated that Sony had some kind of Move prototype prior to Wii. They didnt get in specifics and I know that without Wii the MOve would not have been what it was, only a fool could not see that. IMHO im more inclined to believe the words of a magazine that has been around for a while than the ramblings of a fanboy. I mean GI does not have anything to gain by making that stuff up

Is what they were talking about... sure they were working on stuff like this, but is it really the same thing as what the move came to be?

not really, but you have to start somewhere, they did keep the glowing ball thing. THe Move of today is way better than that thing though

I read through this entire thread. All the plausible hypotheticals have been brought up.

I agree, there would be more than a few 3rd party developers going under. Good. Great. Excellent.

The fat needs to be trimmed in my opinion. Certain 3rd party developers such as id Software who have not developed a game since Doom 3 in 2004, just need to die. I don't care what you and Romero did in the 1990s, I don't want to listen to your 50th interview on how you guys created the FPS genre, and frankly, I would giggle a little inside if you guys went the way of Westwood Studios.

Studios like id Software in the West are equivalent to Yoshio Sakamoto in Japan. 10 to 20 years ago they were the bleeding edge, created huge hits, created sequels, created another round of sequels, 6 year development hiatus, and 6 years later they are releasing a new IP. Romero, Carmack and all of id Software are the old lions who need to bow out now with dignity and make way for the new lions or stay their ground and finish their career like Brett Favre.

Honestly, I want the latter. I want 3rd party studios like id Software to embarass themselves and go out like an old man comes out during sex. A whole lot of waiting and disappointing packages.

I am in the camp that if you look at the indie games on Xbox Live and PSN, there is far more talent there right now than in celebrated studios like id Software. Give these guys a chance because they are hungry, are just as talented, and demand a whole lot less in monetary compensation.

Your ID software tangent seems... way off base.

I mean, why would ID Software have gone out of buisness when, they haven't even released a game yet?

Though yeah.   I would also perfer to see a focus be put back on indie games like those found on Xbox live, PSN, and more importantly PC... and smaller niche targeted games like DS and stuff.... though, i'd perfer it being done without people losing their jobs.  Hence why it's good the Wii is around.

but it's worth noting for those that LIKE their big AAA games... ironically without the system that dosen't get many... NOBODY would get many.

That's what's so funny about all the console hate.  People fail to see the connections and don't realize that they are connected and wouldn't of did as well without each other.

Me, i'd rather just collect $5 buck games off steam.

Edit: also, you forgot quake live.

id Software since Doom 3 in 2004 has helped publish or produce games the biggest being the re-release of Wolfenstein developed by Raven Software. So yes, my not including of this is a tad unfair.

My point is essentially that it is time for some new blood in gaming. Sure companies like id Software and Blizzard still create good games, but if they aren't releasing titles every other year or two, then they should not be held in the same esteem they were in their heyday in the 1990s. Blizzard is an exception to this because with every WoW content patch, they are essentially releasing a new game. Not to mention the every expansion pack for WoW every 2 years or so.

Not to pick on another point, but Sakamoto is still creating hits, just not Metroid hits. Wario Ware, Tomodachi Collection, and Rhythm Heaven are all his brainchildren, which explains the internal esteem he gets within Nintendo (as these are the kinds of cheap-to-make-sell-millions games all publishers love)
