Forums - Sales Discussion - *Where Would Gaming Be If Wii Failed?*

The Last Story, Xenoblade and Dragon Quest X would be released for PS3. :D

Around the Network

In my honest opinion, gaming would be better if wii would have failed. There would be more games for me.

People actually believing that Sony were in fact working on Move before Wii should stop and think a bit. Why would a company talk a bunch of crap about something they were planning on releasing?

If it was being developed long before the Wii wouldn’t it make more since if they released it one or so years after the Wiis success? It would have been ready so why wait that long?

There would have been no Wii and no Kinect either and gaming would be the same as last gen.

Now go nominate me for Nintendo fan of the year!!........ plz…

I don't actually... but now you know.

Third party games do perform better on the Wii then the HD consoles.

Wii games were selling less and making profits, HD games were selling more and bankrupting their developers.

This is less of a problem now due to enough time being put in graphically to in general make things cheaper (as happens in every generation) but if it hadn't been for the Wii to start out...

there would of been some SERIOUS problems... and serious crashes of companies.

yeah.....bullshit, your gonna have to show me alot more than a link from ubisoft (who is far from small) to support that claim. I bet every one you do find it's becasue of the developers own fault, poor resource management, shit game, etc.

but SERIOUS problems...yeah keep your own made up (until proven otherwise) FUD to yourself.

So in otherwords "Show me more proof that I will pretend doesn't matter anyway."

Cognitive Dissonance much?

Also, you know... that's exactly the problem.  ANYONE can make a shit game.   If ONE shit game can end you as a company... you are pretty much screwed.  Hence why the Wii basically saved... large swaths of the gaming Industry.  If it wasn't for the Wii, those who did surived would of went conservative.  Basically making SD games on the HD systems.

Free Radical went down because of Haze... they made some very popular games and some unpopular ones... and one HD game ended them.

Even great selling games don't gurantee profit though.  Afterall Rockstar didn't make money the year Grand Theft Auto released.

I mean, you can believe what you want and what will "help you sleep at night", but it won't change the obvious reality that existed.

That's the real kicker. TakeTwo lost money the year that Grand Theft Auto IV, the game that was supposed to bury the Wii (and especially to bury Mario Kart Wii) released. If you've got a game that's supposed to save your company, GTAIV was it

This is not to say that going to Wii is a magical cure-all, of course (as Majesco and Marvelous can attest), but those who have balanced their portfolios have tended to do better than those who have not

X would have stayed on DS like IX, Xenoblade would still have gone to Wii (much as Baiten Kaitos did), and Last Story would likely have been another Microsoft joint on 360

Nintendo would have taken the same approach as Service Games (I mean Sega), they would be software developers.

@Roma you actually need to stop and read an article and take off your Mario goggles. There have been articles made from ACTUAL game journalist who confirmed that Sony was doing R&D prior to the launch of Wii. Now whether Sony had any intention of doing anything with this R&D, who really knows. Me personally I think not. I think the SIXAxis was more of a direct reaction to the Wii more than anything

and if they would have made a wii game they'd still be here....yeah umm bullshit.

and name some of the savoir games the wii has.... that had it not been for this game x developer wouldn't be here, I mean you say SWATHS, and SERIOUS so finding some should be hard at all.....

How is it bullshit?   Had they made  a wii game it would of cost them at most one third the cost.

As for games?  Off of the top of my head.

Trauma Team games, (Atlus)

No More Hereos (Marvelous)

Carnival Games (Take 2) a paticularly funny one.  Carnival games is what kept the lights on while Rockstar completed GTA.  Without it, EA likely would of succeeded in their buyout and we'd be looking at yearly GTAs.  Not a small company, but the fact that Take 2 was so close to the brink.... tells you something.

Martio and Sonic at the Olympics - Sega  Their first BIG success in a looong while... before this everyone was just waiting.

Basically anythign Hudson soft makes for Wii (Hudson Soft)

Early Square Enix (mostly enix) games most notably Dragon Quest Swords.   Up until FF XIII and DQ, something was keeping the lights on... and heck, look at the position SE is in now after FF13 and even worse... FF14.

And then...  basically everything  EA, Ubisoft and Activision have made that have allowed them to fund other games.  Keep in mind, the big guys pay indepentent developers too...

and this is just off the top of my head.

Though, to be fair... it wasn't the same research really.

I mean, have you looked at the Tech demos and research plans out their for the move?  It was basically meant soley for very simple 2D games meant for small children.(They state this.)  Stuff like accelometers 3D and  using it for games anyone can play... outside of harry potter esque spell motion games...

not so much.

Nearly everything that came to define the move didn't come until AFTER the Wii came out.  Buttons placements the add on periphreal.. etc.

Possibly on the verge of another crash, there have been numerous companies (esp. EA) reporting huge losses and low sales; despite these titles getting great recognition and praise. It as a whole would basicly be in a rut. Plus there wouldn't be the move and Kinect.

Its basicly the early 80s all over again but in a slightly different way. Nontheless, they're rushing game developement, increasing costs, and still pushing the concept that advances in technology paves the way for success; despite companies dening the highcosts.
