Forums - Sony Discussion - So will the NGP have at least some kind of PSP backwards compatibility?

If/when the pirates hack the NGP all the PSP pirates will be able to transfer their games to the NGP. It's a pity for the legitimate customers that the pirates often get a better deal on things like this.

And you'd think this would make them think for a minute and give consumers what they want (eg, legal backwards compatibility, some (limited) homebrew). But no; what they do instead is steal Linux, and next we need to call the Waaaaaambulance because their totally unhackable system gets totally hacked.

"Well certainly with the Xbox 360, we had some challenges at the launch. Once we identified that we took control of it. We wanted to do it right by our customers. Our customers are very important to us." -Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb (10/2013). Note: RRoD was fixed with the Jasper-revision 3 years after the launch of 360

"People don't pay attention to a lot of the details."-Yusuf Mehdi explaining why Xbone DRM scheme would succeed

"Fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity; it's called Xbox 360,”-Don Mattrick

"The region locking of the 3DS wasn't done for profits on games"-MDMAlliance

I for one am looking forward to the massive attention the hacking community will give to the NGP given its' interesting capabilities.

Step 1: Buy NGP

Step 2: Install Android 3.0

Step 3: Fun

I personally wouldn't care if all Sony proprietary software is deleted off the NGP so long as I can have a handheld which I control.

Tease.

Nope, no way. If you want to play those games, you can just use your PSP if you still have it. Backwards compatibility is a waste in my opinion for any new console/handheld.

It is possible though, for a third party to create a UMD ripper. But i don't see this happening any time soon since almost no one actually buys UMD's *looks at piracy*.

1) That kinda takes away the point of portability. Carrying round a PSP and an NGP is gonna be annoying

2) That only applies to people who already own a working PSP

Adding in backwards compatability is a major convenience for current PSP owners, and for non-PSP owners it changes the launch lineup from about a dozen games to several hundred.

Anyway, it'd be fairly interesting if all digital games you'd purchased could be transfered but all retail games could not. That is often one of the complaints about DD.

Am I the only who doesn't have to travel to a different country every morning that I need to carry a stupidly large list of games with me?

That's crossing the line from opinion to making a strawman of the other side.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Not really, considering people seem to be making it seem as if the need to change what you are playing every second is important. When for the most part, one game is enough to last you on your day to day journey.

No, just because you find one game at a time sufficient doesn't mean everyone does.
