I'd say your spot on, 80% is word of mouth, and hands on time with Kinect. 20% is due to advertising.

Huh?  Going by the reviews and word of mouth 90% of people have given kinect 4 stars or higher....I wouldn't call that "people more likely dislike it"

What is funny is the people who are going to bash your post, would just say the same thing about the wii. 

On topic, I think advertisement had a huge part in this, just the simple fact that it appeared on Oprah and other shows, caused people to get the product. 

Typical for haters to come in and add that they think it's because jesus presented it on mtv one night. If it sucked it would have flopped by now. I see Just as many adds for move but yet I don't see the sales that Kinect has recieved.

 You know the reason people bought it around me, THEY TRIED IT.  Thats over 5 people that bought it because they liked it. Not because the adds are so convincing that people just will go blow 300 like that. It's because it's a good product.

The initial sales, i.e. Nov/Dec, are directly attributed to the massive advertising campaign.

The sales of 2011 and beyond (don't know why you think it will be around for "decades") will be based on word of mouth, which I agree is been very positive.

Thats why it has been selling close to a million a week at 150 price tag or 300 for a bundle because people don't like it. Lets be honest, thats a high price point and people voted with there dollar because they like it.

It's getting great reviews on Amazon, which probably has the Wii as the top rated item with similar reviews to Kinect so far. This probably means the same type of people who bought the Wii are buying Kinect, and that's great for Microsoft. I'm sure they're even surprised on how well Kinect is doing!
