Coming to the world in 2018.
I saw nothing in any bid that suggested anything to me other then the best options being England and Australia.
I can understand Russia, I suppose, but seriosuly, Qatar???
This july they recorded a temperature of 50.6 Celcius (during when the world cup should be on) and they average high 30's (that is around 100 farenheit). They have a population of just 1.5 million, and they have NEVER been in a world cup before.
Aside from that, there were reports coming out up to an hour before the announcements, apparently from some middle eastern news source, that Qatar had won, so it all seems very corrupt to me. I dont see how it was leaked from a secret ballot.
Anyway, football is the loser here. Why not go back to where the home of football is - considering that it hasn't been there in ages - and then to the only inhabited continent yet to host the cup?
Bet With routsounmanman: By the end of Q1 2008 Capcom WONT have announced a RE5 Wii Edition OR a new RE (classic gameplay) for the Wii (WON)

Average temperature in Qatar in june.....? 115 degrees. Do me a favour. Qatar has fuck all to do with football and will have to manufacture a culture around it. Lots of cash sloshing around though. Absolute joke!

Football is the number 1 sport in Qatar, i cant say the same for your picks Australia and USA, Middle eastern countries really love their football, their teams might not be good but they have passionate fans.

Cruyff, Gullit, Pfaff and Hiddink would beat the crap out of your Beckham and Prince Harry :p
Also as you said:
"England went out in round 1 by all accounts.. THAT is a scandal. "
lol haha
Carl2291 said: Russia is a joke. Plactic football pitches, freezing cold weather, corrupt as hell, country is way too big... Qatar, I can possibly understand. They have the potential to put ona great WC.
Russia though.. Stupid, stupid decision. |
You understand it being in a third world country but not Russia? I'm the other way around.
I expected Russia to get it, even though it'll take your average fan about a week to get between venues. Qatar is a joke though. I have to wonder what Budweiser, one of the major WC sponsors will think of that one... No alcohol in public allowed! So none in the fanzones, etc, etc...

This should have totally been Portugal Spain ! Would have been way better !

do they even like football that much? average attendances are about 13,000.

World Cup is little different event than avegare league match. Stadiums will be filled with people. Not to mention that there will be probably more fans of other countries than there were in south africa.

lol The Q league is a joke. They all support English Premier league teams. It may be their number one sport but thats not saying much. That isnt even the main issue though... 115 degrees F average?.. come on!!! I think the population of Qatar is less than 1 million... its a farce. 40c to 50c and nobody there... it will be a huge flop and a total disaster. |
it does not matter if their league is weak, as long as they have people who are interested in football, and it wont be just qatar, people will come from the whole region to see the world cup.
i agree with you on the weather, i was in the middle east last June, it was way to hot.
