WKC - Sony dropped the ball on it totally - they could have gotten it as first big JRPG on PS3 which was rpg starved at that time but due to delay it released in time frame close to FFXIII and End of Eternity

End of Eternity itself - who was the genius who released it so close to FFXIII ?

 

SEGA, the eternal genius behind the Saturn, Comix Zone, and countless Sonic suicides... you can't really expect anything else from them...

OT: Well deserved, I'd say. It's NOT the best SO, but it's great regardless...

Hey, I never called doom on the JRPG genre. :3

But really, it's like what I was telling you that other day about the Versus XIII and Agito XIII trailers. Seriously, the comments in there made me nautious, and this thread didn't disappoint me either.

When you go into a thread about JRPG's....I would usually just read Lestatdark's posts.....since they are always the best ones in such threads  .....reading many (but not all) of the other posts may give you a brain hemorrhage!

SO4 has a metacritic of 74, its hardly us that are unapprecative, its also the gaming media who dont think its good. i havent played it but its clearly not just the fans. i finished SO3 thou, and i could explain in detail why i didnt like it.

i dont give a toss about the sales, but imo their success is marginal. eg Alan Wake which is conisdered a disaster did better in a shorter space of time (even thou AW sales are actully quite good). still quarter of a million on 2 consoles in the EU in the space of 2 years is just amazing....

A meta of 74 is a "bad game" now? I give SO4 a score of 8 myself (not that far from 74).....but see I still appreciate it as I classify that as "good" as do many other gaming journalists. Below 50 is bad or within 50.

I didn't like this game that much, but then again I didn't like 3 either. Or 2. So maybe I just shouldn't play star ocean :P

IE I liked Resonance of Fate a lot better made by tri-ace that people in this thread don't like, even though it gets repetetive.

As for selling... I have no preference, maybe more sales.. there's a lot of worse games that sell better, and wouldn't mind if it sold better, because maybe that would give tri-ace more money to make better games :D

Wow, that was actully a reasonable answer for a change. yes Alan Wake was not a good comparasion. imo Alan Wake is only a diaster because the fans expected it to sell 4 or 5 mil. even thou its only sold 0.8 mil by no means bad sales.

fair enough the sales are showing an improvement, but whether or not this can continue remains to be seen with future installments. i dont really have much else to comment on tbh, the only thing is with Vallkyria Chonicles which for some reason Sega decided to put on the PSP for reasons beyond me, couldve been a bigger series imo.

Let's be fair here - gaming journalists hate jRPG and would prefer to receive japanise versions of Mass Effect as "innovation".

It's not even funny in how many places jrpg lose points for being repetive despite same portal giving 9s and 10s like candies to same boring fps with minimal changes from previous game in the series.

Personally, I loved the game. Sure it had some of its faults, but what game doesn't?

Yeah, i think i know what you mean, but tbh these publications like ign have to conform to what people want to hear. for example, say if they gave GTA4 the score it deserved then they wouldve got a lot of backlash, a lot of hate. if its JRPG it dosent matter, no one will really care, and it wont tarnish igns rep.
