Japan’s Computer Entertainment Suppliers Association just announced the winners of the Japan Game Awards 2010, which covers titles released between April 1, 2009 to March 31, 2010.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii took top honors. CESA chose it as the Game of the Year since beginners and advanced gamers can enjoy it. According to CESA, New Super Mario Bros. Wii bridges generation gaps. Heavy Rain won the Game Designer’s Award for creating a suspenseful scenario with convincing graphics and sound to match it.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies also claimed a trophy. Actually, two of them. It was the top selling game in Japan and won an excellence award.

More importantly, Heavy Rain makes the list. A western game in a Japanese award show. That gotta be rare. Japan is really conservative when it comes to their culture.

How would you explain the reception of the Xbox brand in Japan then? The efforts Microsoft invested are in vain for a reason.

So one product that didn't do well in Japan makes it alright to say the culture is conservative?

Edit: Personally I don't care about the culture thing, but it gets annoying that it is an excuse. (or in this case used to explain something.)

Fiinnaly the game get's the  respect it deserved.
