Starcraft 2 sold 1.5 million in only 2 days! For comparison, the original Starcraft needed 9 months to sell 1.5 millions.

As of February 2009, Starcraft 1 has sold 11 million copies worldwide.

Hmm...

Firstly, what are your sources? VGChartz says it sold 1.8 Million in it's first day, excluding Korea.

There could have even been up to 4 Million people playing it in Korea, day 1. Dunno if you wanna count all those as "sold" though.

5.8 Million (high end) in a day is a big, big number. Outselling the original by the end of the year is a certainty IMO.

20 Million is possible lifetime... Will take a long while though.

 

Edit: If you add Wings of Liberty, Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void together... Then yes. Easily.

If it truly sells 10 to 12 million in its first year like vgchartz predicts then yes, I think it will.

No, that is a huge jump to go from SC at 11 million to 20 million.

 

I think LTD will maybe be 15-16 million

i think it will reach 15 million ltd but 20 is too high i know starcraft is big but its not modern warfare big

I think you underestimate Starcraft. Just remember that it's following is HUGE and has been around longer and is more loyal than Modern Warfare's. MW2 is big for now, SC2 will be big forever. Hell, you can still buy brand new copies of the original. I just saw about 5 at Best Buy, and they're actually selling.

You are basically saying that the sequel will double the sales of the original.

Now this may has happened, but can you name any sequel that doubled the sales of it's predecessor in the same genre (RTS)

I don't know about doubling but modern warfare 2 has massively outsold the original. Yes I know that it was the first call of duty game, but starcraft has picked up a huge amount of goodwill in the 12 years since its release.

EDIT just read the RTS bit. Warcraft to warcraft 2 did it, at least according to vgchartz data. And hey its a Blizzard title!
