Forums - Sales Discussion - Gran Turismo 1-3 sold more than the Halo series combined

Good point. This is a powerful illustration of just how far Sony has fallen this generation.

Do you feel it is due to the Japanese market?

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

And GT5P sold 221k it's first NPD and never charted in NPD top ten again. What a amazingly popular series.

Yet somehow GT5P went on to sell like 5 million supposedly, right? Funny how that works.

The Japanese market, and every other market.

No.

As of December 2009, GT5P sold 4.65 Million. More than a huge definitive hyped up game in the same genre.

GT PSP had sold 1.8 Million. But hey, PSP game. More than likely it has been illegally downloaded two times for every copy sold at retail.

And what do you mean "supposedly"?

Did you skip 2007 when we all realized that point?

Wow, talk about sillyness for several reasons.

Halo is firstly younger, and has less games in the series.

Its also only been on consoles that haven't been anywhere near the market leader (GT had two generations in a row on the market leading console). Halo also had to fight agains the perception that console FPS games were a waste of time compared to their pc bretheren. The perception that pc is the proper platform for fps gaming still persists today and that perception was far far stronger when halo combat evolved first came out.

Not to mean any disrepect to Gran Turismo, which obviously is absolutely massive. But it had more going for it in its early days then Halo did.

Plus GT and Halo are tiny franchises compared to Pokemon, Mario and the Sims (and more recently the wii line of games) anyway, so whats the point of debating about whose the better seller when neither are anywhere close to the top anyway.

GT5 will sell better than GT4 lifetime!

This makes me laugh. I wonder what they will say back

They? Is there some sort of war going on? =P

Childish? Yes

What's the point of this debate? To spout around random facts that already have been known for quite some time. I mean I knew that Halo 3 sold almost 10 million units months ago, and now Greenburg decides to tweet about it. Wow, just wow. Both of the HD twins have their heavy weights like Gran Turismo for the Playstation and Halo for the Xbox. But it is a little disappointing to see that there has already been 3 Halo games this generation and just one GT game. ( I don't count prologue or HD concept as a full game )

The two arguments aren't the same at all.  There are more GT games than Halo games.  Greenburg is making a statement about one individual game outselling certain entire Sony franchises.

That said, it's incredibly immature for both sides.

Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo ODST, Halo Wars.

GT, GT2, GT3 Aspec, GT4 Prologue, GT4, GT5 Prologue. By definition, there's only one more game than the Halo series, but on the Chartz, two of those are just demos, right? o.O

Anyway, Greenberg might be making that statement in those terms, but he's not looking at the grand scheme of things. Oh wow, H3 outsold all of those titles in the US. Does that mean that whatever they sold in the US was the only money Sony made from those games? NO, because millions more were sold worldwide.

I saw this in another thread. I'll try some good ol Greenberg spin: FFXIII for the PS3 outsold Halo 1, 2, 3, Gears 1, 2, Fable 1, 2, Mass Effect 1, 2, Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey COMBINED.....wow. In Japan.......

One individual game outselling certain entire M$ franchises, right?
