Forums - Sony Discussion - Valve wants PS3 to open like a Mac not closed like a Gamecube.

i think he is using Portal logic.
hes going to open a portal for PS3 but not going to open one for the Gamecube.
either way he will be too fat to get in it so it doesn't matter what he opens up
yes these fat jokes are never going to get old.

I swear I thought he said open like a big Mac. It would have made more sense coming from him.

that'd also make more sense since he probably tried opening the gamecube thinking its a launchbox, but failed.

What does this even mean??

PS3 has to many gatekeeper functions on who can develop and sell products and what kind of functions said products can have.

Basically, it makes sense to port to Apple because they can do things like Steam cloud and give free updates.

Basically valve LOVES modders and actually building relationships with their fans... etc.  They're all about bringing people in, getting ideas from their fans and collborating with them to make things better.

True they can't do that on 360 either... however it takes no effort to port to 360.  It does make a lot of sense.

Seriously... LISTEN to the interview and you'll understand.

You may actually learn something, it's a very telling and good interview about game development.

Building a relationship with their fans?  Is that why they pissed off quite a few by pratically releasing the promised DLC for L4D as L4D2?  And you yourself just stated that they port on 360 because it takes little to no effort.  Doesn't that pretty much enforce what people are saying about them, that they are lazy developers?

I don't think Valve is going to get a pass anytime soon from PS3 supporters.  Instead of just saying they prefer the 360 and continuing to work on it, they feel the need to demean the PS3.  And this new excuse is pretty lame, as well.  It's pretty much giving an answer without giving an answer.

Eh, L4D is one game. They have shown time and time again they support all their games. Looks at the new Counter Strike Source Beta.

Valve is a PC dev. They care about their PC fanbase first and foremost. The Xbox games are just for some quick cash. Nothing more.

And who cares if they never release a damn game on the PS3, I wouldnt buy their games on any console anyways.

Haha more fat jokes, But as I said before when he says open he means the future is brighter for the MAC and PC because their lifespan isn't limited like the consoles which he called closed because the opportunities aren't as vast because of shorter lifespans.

Again its just my take on his cryptic words so please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Im with you 100% on this one.  I will never buy a Valve game on anything but the PC.

This is pretty much it.  Valve FEEDS off of their fans almost.  I mean, how were the portal devs hired again?  With TF2 they add community items and have been adding community maps forever!

Valve embraces mods.

I refuse to play a valve game until it is on PS3.

That's like refusing to eat a hot dog until it's been dropped on the floor.

No offense to PS3 or consoles in general, but valve games are built around the community in ways that make them last much longer and make them much better games.

I can kind of see what you mean by this, PS3 has yet to have a game that starts a community and makes the game last longer, but that doesn't excuse Valve for not trying to make one, you should always try, sometimes you fail, but you just get back up and try again.

You're completely right.  *cough* LBP *cough* MNR *cough*  Damn cold.

Your comparing LBP and MNR to the kinds of things that can be made with mod tools?  Really?

It's not even remotely comparable.

What you can do with these games is "revolutionary" as far as consoles go, but the PC is so far ahead there is no comparison.

Complete GAMES being 100% changed (Full remodel, brand  new story, new triggers, new characters, new everything)

Just off the top of my head:

Silly amounts of Mods for Neverwinter Nights, Torchlight and hell Warcraft 3.  Fucking custom WC3 games have become their OWN retailish games!

I don't get it... Life span, community, user freedom, features, I don't see the problem.

Lifespan - SONY's always boosting about the 10 year plan
User Freedom - LBP, MNR, UT3
Community - LBP, SOCOM, MGO, CoD4
Features - Everything's there... most dev's just don't use it.

4 ≈ One

Yeah... that was my point...

Modding is FAR superior to level editors... and really what is valuable to PC companies who build good communities.
