Forums - Gaming Discussion - Bungie and Activision Announce Exclusive, Worldwide Partnership

Didn't Bungie say recently that they might revisit Halo in 10 years?

I'm pretty sure they did...now we know why.

Ok, I'd like to ask this again:

Why does everyone think Activision is a horrible place to work?

Because West and Zampella were fired (for potential insubordination, talking with EA while still being employed by Activision) causing many other people to leave Infinity Ward?  What about Rockstar or EA?  How is Activision any worse than those places, with lots of documented complaints about the working conditions?

Why does everyone think Activision is "ruining" Blizzard?

Because Blizzard is charging the same amount for Starcraft 2 as they did for Warcraft 3?  Do people really think Activision could have forced Blizzard to split Starcraft 2 into 3 games?  Do you guys think that Microsoft forced Bungie to make Halo: ODST?

What the hell kind of haterade is everyone drinking?

They must really hate MS to leave them for Activision Blizzard...

It tells a lot about the bad relations between MS and the studios working on 360.

Stop trolling MS please.

They wanted to be independent, they still are, but they had to find a publisher for their new games.

You are either the biggest troll or comletely delusional with this post.

Who will offer Bungie more money to develop a game and have bigger distribution? Activision or any other studio?

Bungie left Apple to develop for MS in 2000... They must hate apple too eh.

Yeah it is sad though. Alot of guys at Bunie wanted the company to be free and independant. So will they leave now a much worse Activision is at the helm? This is all gonna go horribly wrong. I just hope before it does thatall devs jump ship to 343. 343 has got some big names from Bungie already. SOme are staying to finish Reach and move after. I think M$ are planning a big Halo 4 for next gen. Reach will be the last on 360.

Activision is not at the helm of Bungie.  They are at the helm of 1 IP that Bungie is working on.  One would hope that Bungie managed to get at least a good deal of creative freedom in their contract.  And we should all hope that Bungie employees do not start jumping ship(and I am certain that they will not), because Bungie is world class and we want them to stay that way regardless of publisher.  It is all about games, is it not?

If indeed Activision keep there bloody noses out, then yeah all is well. But there is 20 or so devs moving to 343 to continue on Halo. So I cant see the next game necessarily being a FPS. Lets be honest. A new FPS even by Bungie would be crazy against Halo.

I don't understand how not developing a set of first party studios will work long-term for a console. I don't mean to troll but there's no way to see this as anything but a terrible thing for Microsoft.

Yeah sure, losing their main exclusive dev (Bungie) and letting him going multiplat with Activision won't affect 360 at all. Er, what ?

It's not like 360 had tons of flagship developers. They had only one, Bungie.

Seriously dude...don't you see you are the only one waiving the fanboy flag around here.

Do I have to list the exclusives that Sony list from last gen? Ms didn't lose any here...

Don't worry about MS, they have enough cash to by Valve, Epic and every other remaining independent developer if they wanted to. The key aspect is that Bungie did not want to work on Halo anymore and you can bet they are not a cheap team to secure. Now MS has an oportunity to use that cash and get top end tallent to make the next Halo game.

Otherwise maybe next bungie title is a rail shooter...

I could list those MS lost to PS3 too, like Bioshock, Tales of Vesperia, Star Ocean, Ninja Gaiden, Braid, GTA Episodes, so many more...

And yeah, MS just lost any future exclusivity for EVERY game from Bungie, so it's huge and it's actually a lot worse than losing just one game. It will matter a lot when people will decide between Xbox 720 and PS4... It further increases the already big gap in exclusive quality and quantity.

No amount of PR spin can change facts, which is it's a bad news for MS and a good news for Sony.

Would you PLEASE stop spreading lies ? That's probably the 5th time you've said it and it's simply WRONG.

FACT !

Any Halo game ever made by Bungie after Reach for example will never be on anything other than Xbox. It'sowned by M$. LOL.

Its a loss for sure...but you can't force a studio like bungie to work on something they don't want to work on. You will have a complete studio desctruction if you tried this. Just ask Activision...

Like MS is prolly laughing a bit on the inside at how fucked up this may turn out for Bungie. They have had huge success with Halo and are proly a little cocky at what they can do and the market reaction they can expect. And Activision doesn't fuck around.

@Xero : I agree 100% Xero. That's the main trouble with MS : they're not buying / opening studios, which kills their future in the console world actually. They need to open studios now and decide they're in for 10 or 20 years.

On the long run, how are you supposed to compete when your competitor has tons more studios which release tons more AAA exclusives ? Exclusives are the fuel of this war...

I mean, the fact Bungie or any 3rd party leaves could have been planned long ago. It was all predictable.

In my opinion, MS strategy was influenced by Xbox 1 failure. They thought they couldn't afford buying or opening studios because had 360 been a failure too, they wanted to be able to leave the console market completely and closing / selling back those studios would have cost them a lot. So they poured money in timed exclusives, rushed their console and made the price lower. It worked even better than they expected... on the short run.

But now that the 360 is more successful than planned, their strategy is coming back to haunt them. They basically survive by having a lower price and some timed exclusives, but this strategy can only work if the PS3 is a lot more expansive, otherwise they just can't compete (not enough exclusives, no bluray...). Every time the PS3 price gets lower, 360 looses more market share. And PS3 price has a lot of ground left.

No exclusives = no reason to buy this console and not the competitor.

Their lack of 1st part studios will kill them in the long run on the console market.
