Yeah, I agree orange Box is mostly a shooter. I only mentioned Portal (as opposed to Orange box) because for me, when I read orange box it gets pronounced in my head as 'portal' :P

I also didn't initially realise that this list was created by you rather than copy/pasted from a wesbite - if I had realised, I woulda made the same point but perhaps been a bit more polite about it :P I would hesitate to call many game 'must plays' I would reserve the term for games that have such a phenomenal impact upon the gaming industry that to not play it is to not be able to appreciate other games as much. Mario 64 and Goldeneye spring to mind, FFVII and Wii Sports eagerly put their hands up, but I look them up and down several times, like a bouncer deciding whether it's worth calling the cops on the guy with the fake id

No worries. I didnt take it personally. :)

I plan to keep the list going for the rest of the gen. So games will drop out of the top 10. Essentially new ones will crop up. Hopefully by the time next gen starts we will have what according to 'Metacritic' is the essential purchases this gen has had.

How come CoD Wii not listed along with the x360/ps3?

I could not bring myself to list Reflex next to MW. For it scored in the 70's. MW scored 94. Big difference. I dont mind if it's like 5 or 6 points. But 20 is not acceptable for top 10 list. ( I assume you refer to Reflex. The Wii version of MW.

I thought people said they were identical except for the revised control scheme, which supposedly made it better?

Oh wait, this list is based on meta scores?

I understand your point. It's awkward. Essentially it has a different name. Also, whether you or I agree graphics for example help immersion, so does sound via HDMI etc etc. Maybe these points all brought the review scores down for Reflex compared to the praise MW got. Or maybe also the online is not like 360/PS3. Whatever it is, the reviews concede the games are not the same.

Good to hear

Sounds interesting. Are portable games going to be included? (if any actually get sufficient metacritic scores that is... Actually, they probably would have in rpg if they were going to in anything)

Hey selnor, quick changes...

Add PC version of Oblivion. It's the best version of the game by a long shot, don't know how it scored but I'm sure you agree with that.

God of War 3 is an adventure game, should be placed in with that category.

Otherwise looks great.

Games like Lost Odyssey really should be up there.. it was reviewed really unfairly. I doubt anyone on this community would disagree.

I think we should have a seperate thread for Portable top 10 lists. What do you think? Maybe someone else could run and edit that one based on Meta?

Better effort than the last, never thought i would say this but played Selnor. I do think that that Infamous will end up above Splinter Cell Conviction but that is for another time.

assumption is the mother of all f**k ups

@BW_JP I'd say Selnor had it right last time, where he moved all Hack 'n Slashes into their own category. Although there is definately a bit of a cross over there.

Is Rachet and Clank going in as a platformer rather than an adventure game?

I haven't played enough of those games to really voice an opinion on many, but Oblivion is one game I really didn't get into and I really like Fantasy RPGs, so I'll never understand why it got such a great Meta.

Because its the best WRPG of all time!

I was amazed by it 3 years ago now, and nothing has come close since :(

The Dark Brotherhood was awesome!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Racing/Sim added.

hack and slash is not really a genre. And GoW wouldn't fit in it anyway. I'd say about 40-50% of the game is solving puzzles/exploring. even if its 30-40 thats just as much as games like Zelda and Uncharted are.

It really is an adventure game.
