Forums - Sony Discussion - Study: PS3 Has Highest Percentage Of Connected Consoles

Research firm The Diffusion Group said that in the U.S., the PlayStation 3 has the highest percentage of broadband connected consoles when compared to Xbox 360 and Wii.

Seventy-eight percent of PS3 users have the console connected to the internet, while Xbox 360 has 73 percent and Wii has 54 percent, according to Diffusion Group director of research Michael Greeson.

"Today's game consoles are increasingly connected to the internet, not just to enhance their gaming experience but to access the growing variety of online media-video," he said. Diffusion Group's survey polled 2,000 adult broadband users in the U.S.

The firm said that it predicts that video game consoles are "best positioned to become the first mainstream over-the-top (OTT) video delivery platform."

Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 allow users to buy or rent movies and download TV shows. Along with the Wii, all three consoles now allow for Netflix streaming video. Greeson said that a quarter of Wii owners in the U.S. already subscribe to Netflix's DVD by mail service, a subscription that allows automatic access to Netflix's large library of streaming online content.

is my math wrong or right? can someone double check

^The thread is about the PS3 having the highest "Percentage", not user base.

Yeah I get that, but with 360 having more connected consoles, doesn't it have a higher percentage overall? not just within each own's userbase?

Seece, your maths is wrong because this is USA only. The PS3 has the lowest amount of connected consoles without a doubt, but 360 vs. Wii might be close.

Someone do the maths.

God that throw's it in 360's favour even more!

is that good news?

So a wireless connection is at best worth 5% or 1/20 people connecting to the internet who may have otherwise not? I can see now why they didn't include it.

Tease.
